Every dish from start to finish was incredible. The OooMami Smash Burger with Ovoka & Chapel Hill Farms ground beef and umami bacon jam was unforgettable, and the bison strip steak — three peppercorn crusted with bourbon cream, maitake mushrooms, potatoes, arugula salad & sab — was perfectly prepared and full of flavor. We ended the night with the deep dish brownie with hazelnut praline, toasted hazelnuts & vanilla ice cream, which felt like a stunning, elevated take on a Ferrero Rocher.
What truly made the experience stand out was our server, Kyle H. He was warm, personable, and incredibly knowledgeable, taking the time to share the restaurant’s history and roots in a way that made the night feel so personal. He even prepared a latte himself for my fiancée — who loves coffee — and she absolutely loved it.
Overall, this was one of the best, if not the best, dining experiences we’ve ever had. We cannot wait to return.
Food was incredible and portion sizes were perfect. We had the green salad, the baked bread, the bison, the confit chicken leg and the apple cheesecake.
The two things that made our meal stand out was the great service by Sarah Jo and how well they took care of our dog. Sarah Jo was THE BEST! Super personable, answered all of our questions, and always made sure we were taken care of.
Classy, elegant and comfortable.
We couldn’t have chosen a better place to celebrate our anniversary than Field & Main in Marshall, VA. From the moment we walked in, we felt welcomed and at home. The restaurant, set in a beautifully restored historic house, had this perfect balance of elegance and warmth, intimate enough to feel special, yet lively enough to remind us why we love a great dining experience.
We opted for the preset menu, and every course felt like a gift. The flavors were rich, fresh, and thoughtfully crafted, making each bite an experience in itself. We also treated ourselves to a cocktail and a bottle, both of which complemented the meal perfectly. Every detail, from the presentation to the balance of flavors, showed the passion and care that goes into their food.
What truly made the night even more special was the service. The staff was incredibly kind, attentive, and genuinely invested in making our evening memorable. It wasn’t just great hospitality, it was the kind of service that makes you feel like you’re celebrating with friends.
We left Field & Main feeling so grateful, not just for the amazing food, drinks, and ambiance, but for a truly wonderful experience to mark another year together. If you’re looking for a place to celebrate something special or just to treat yourself to an unforgettable meal, we can’t recommend this place enough. It was a night we won’t forget!
For a more private experience you can reserve a cabana (enclosed with air conditioning, or leave the door open on a beautiful day!). It’s an easy drive down 66 from northern Virginia… definitely worth the trip!
They gave us an amuse-bouche which was watermelon lemonade with tajin. It was very good and a nice treat from the kitchen.
From our appetizer we ordered the umami smash burger. Cooked and seasoned perfectly. Was a perfect balance of local meat, onions, bacon jam, cheese, and mayo. I would absolutely order that again.
I ordered the blackened scallops. They were cooked perfectly. Wasn’t a fan of the rest of the dish. It was kind of tasteless. I ate everything on the plate but I wouldn’t order that dish again.
My fiance ordered the campanelle with lump crab. There was crab throughout the dish. I didn’t like the seasoning or something about the breadcrumbs that were sprinkled throughout it. My fiance liked everything except the parsley and said the dish was very filling.
We ordered a side of crispy potatoes that never came. We finished both of our entrees and when the waiter asked how everything was we asked them to cancel the side dish. He promptly apologized.
We ordered 4 different drinks. New old fashioned, espresso martini, cool as a cucumber, and mint chocolate martini. All of the drinks were really good.
As a surprise they gave us corn ice cream. It was awesome, could really taste the corn. Was very unique.
Overall we had a great night.
Inconsistent experience at this price point. Don’t be in a rush to eat.
The great: excellent espresso martini, and tasty Coco loco sundae.
The good: Tomato Peach Salad and scallops (pricey).
The puzzling: the famous smash burger. Disappointing presentation, not much different than a fast food one. Meat is delicious but over powered by the generous amount of flavores onions and string cheese.
Service: staff is friendly and attentive, but the wait from getting a drink to the starter to the meal, to the desert is excessive : 2 hours!
