It’s been two months since our visit and we’re remiss to have not acknowledged the above line experience, at Field & Fire’s Bakehouse.
We stopped by Sunday, January 4th and was enthusiastically greeted by its owner Shelby; a most wonderful way to start an early morning, we say.
My husband & I stocked up on many F&F goods: baguettes, pastries and bread. Shelby showed additional kindness in gifting us a second baguette.
Both of us are not strangers to this stellar institution having patronized their other two locations plus the stand, at Bridge St. Market and the now defunct stall, at Whole Foods.
Grand Rapids should consider itself fortunate not only to enjoy the terrific baked goods from this company but also the lovely Shelby & Julie as its proprietors – their dedication to craft and customer satisfaction knows little competition.
Full disclosure: I had the pleasure of chatting with Shelby at the Whole Foods opening, in August ’22. We bonded over our mutual love for Zingerman’s. I was bowled over by his charm and love for selling outstanding provisions. So, in effect we’re biased. Yep, guilty as charged.

I went for lunch and enjoyed the cheese pizza. The website makes it seem like there is a cafe menu but that is not the case. I did get an assortment and bread that I’m sure will be great! I will go back for baked goods but not necessarily for lunch.

Delicious pizza and treats (go early for best availability), friendly staff. Small seating area, but more than most bakeries! Love that you get a peek of the actual baking facility.
