The crust was extremely hard and dense, it lacked that developed, airy flavour you expect from properly proofed dough. Instead of tasting like a well-fermented, risen crust, it was flat and flavourless. The texture was the biggest issue: overly chewy, tough, and hard in all the wrong ways. The only noticeable flavour coming through was burnt. I could only eat one slice before the burnt taste was too carcinogenic to handle. It was so flat and compact that it almost resembled a gluten-free crust in texture, but without any of the care or balance that a good gluten-free pizza can have.
I was genuinely blown away by how bad this food was. I couldn’t believe a restaurant with a 4.4 rating could serve something this disappointing.
Service was also disappointing. The food took a very long time to arrive, and the restaurant wasn’t busy. Delays are understandable when a place is packed, but there was no communication from our server about what was happening. A simple update would have made a big difference.
I actually came here once about four years ago and left due to poor service. I had hoped things might have improved, but sadly that doesn’t seem to be the case.
Overall, a very disappointing experience.
Because we went late at night, we assumed the staff’s behavior was due to fatigue, even though we had to call them over ourselves.
However, after leaving there, we went to earls
restaurant and experienced much better service.
At that late hour, the food options were limited, and the rest is evident in the photos.
That said, the restaurant’s atmosphere was excellent, and I genuinely loved the space.
The hostess and servers are very nice but pointless if the food isn’t good. I ate as much as I could but took the rest to go because I can’t finish it. I’ll just give the takeout remains to my boyfriend since he is indifferent with tough meat.
Won’t return on my own accord but I get invited again by friends, I hope their other entrees are better and definitely be ordering something else.
The food was good, but it was the service and the very vibrant atmosphere that turned dining alone, which can be a bit tedious, into an enjoyable experience. I got the sense that the staff were well trained and managed, and combined with the atmospheric architecture and decor, created a great experience.
Leah was our server who was methodical in how she went about the steps of service. Amy also stands out to me in her role as a support staff/host. Overall, the staff were quality: laid back but also seemed to care for their work.
I came for a Sunday night dinner so regrettably, the pasta dishes weren’t available reducing the choices in entree. However, their rotating specials of the day were a nice addition ensuring greater variety. This also implies they utilize seasonal ingredients and come up with new dishes in addition to the set menu– probably more fun for the kitchen staff too!
I ordered their special of the day: Eggplant Parmesan ($26) which was delectable. I loved the addition of roasted vegetables (including potatoes, broccolini, sweet peppers, and carrots) to brighten up the otherwise heavy dish.
I would recommend this place for those in Victoria and craving a good Italian meal with a charming atmosphere :).
