They deserve all the 5 star reviews! Drove on a day trip to the caverns from Texas and I wanted some good tamales and found these! So good, good texture, great taste! NM definitely knows how to do tamales. I had the red pork because they were out of the rest which is fine cuz they were great.

Fine and Amazing! The two words for this food establishment. The atmosphere was very clean, the owner and staff were very friendly, and the food was beyond compare. I don’t usually eat red chile enchiladas but decided to give it a go and I am not disappointed. This business is detail oriented and efficient. The tamales were cooked to perfection, moist and not greasy. There are lots of selections for Mexican food in this town but very few that exceed expectations, this restaurant does exactly that. The menu is small and not overwhelming and the food makes you feel like royalty. I would say with their attention to detail that they are more of a fine dining establishment than just another restaurant. They are well versed in their craft and they make the best tamales I’ve tasted thus far in the 10 years that I’ve lived in Carlsbad. I recommend if you come across this review that you set your phone down and head on over to get some great food and friendly customer service. Thank you for the delicious meal.

We got the pork tamales, and chicken tamales here and they were fantastic, and held together well. Both salsas were very delicious and flavorful.

Absolutely delicious AUTHENTIC Mexican food! The red pork tamales are amazing, the flavor is spot on. The green enchiladas have a nice spicy kick to them. The agua de Horchata is so delicious, not to mention the nugget ice that makes it even better. Customer service is a 10/10. Absolutely amazing place!!!

My teen son and I, Washington natives, are touring New Mexico on a road trip and came through the town of Carlsbad traveling from White Sands enroute to the Caverns. We found Fernando’s Tamales which is a very local eats, the kind of treasure where Foodies everywhere are searching for. The cozy eatery was charming inside and sparkling clean with a couple of small tables but I noticed locals popping in to carry away large bags of homemade from scratch, specializing specifically in tamales so we knew it was going to be good. We met the owner, operator and cook named Lupe who was a lovely woman. She was friendly and attentive and after chatting with her for a bit, I knew these tamales would taste different. One of her main motivations in making tamales is a pure and simple one; she loves seeing people enjoy her food, enjoy her creation prepared by her own two hands. Feeding people is her love language, a true characteristic of any great cook!

This is the best mom and pop Mexican spot in town 100%! The service is always up to par the lady is always super sweet. Every other Mexican place in town will either tear you up when you get home or it’s just reheated food from two days ago. If you haven’t tried it, please do. The restaurant itself is decorated with so much color and culture. It could use some mariachi music to add to atmosphere but it’s a MUST try! ❤️

Hands down the best Mexican food we’ve tried since being in New Mexico (we’re from Texas). We had the flautas and gorditas. The chicken in the flautas tasted like mom makes, the asado de puerco, picadillo, and the carne guisada in the gorditas was amazing. My 4 year old son is a rice and beans snob…if he doesn’t like it he won’t eat it … well he DEVOURED his plate! OH DID I MENTION THE TAMALES?! Things tasted like my grandma was in the back slapping and wrapping in the kitchen, awesome! You can taste the quality in the ingredients for sure! We met the owners, had a nice conversation with them. Incredibly down to earth people. Definitely making this our go to place for Mexican!
