I’d like to first start off by saying I am appalled at how many good reviews this place has. The best part about my whole experience was my bottled beer. In short: The food is salty, flavorless and outlandishly expensive.

To start things off, I was in a group of 6 and we all got one container of chips. Not bad, not great. Chips and salsa. The real issue starts when we receive our food. The waiter placed my food in front of me and the person in my party next to me, and said, “Uhhhh wait. This is someone else’s.” He took our food back to the kitchen. Oh well. I’m drinking my beer and try not to overthink it. I’ve heard great things about this place so I shrug it off.

Finally, we all get our food without explanation. Whatever, I’m hungry. I ordered two beef burritos with rice and beans. The meat was completely flavorless. I started off this with meat because that is all I got on my burritos: Just meat in a tortilla. I honestly did not know what to do. Everyone around me got lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, sour cream, etc. on their food except me. I truly was confused. I asked the waiter if this was for sure my order. Indeed, it was. Why did everyone else get the works except me? He wasn’t sure.

I choke down a few bites of the dry, tasteless burritos before I eat my rice and beans. The rice and beans were good, but something I could easily have made at home and cheaper. And with way less salt.

Dinner for myself and the two others on my ticket came out to $75. We all got an entree and a beer. It may have been worth the money if it was good, but it was the worst place I’ve been in Wichita in a long time. I feel bad for wasting the food, but I just left it there. I wouldn’t have fed it to my dog. He at least deserves some spices.

With that, I’m on the hunt for a decent authentic Mexican restaurant in town, if anyone has any suggestions.

I have been coming to all of these family owned restaurants since I was a kid, though I usually go to the one on the east side of town. There is no better Mexican restaurant in my opinion as I love this place. The staff are all so nice and friendly and have worked together for years. My all-time favorite dish is the Arandas Special. It comes with pork burrito, ham and bean flauta, cheese enchilada a fried beef taco and of course rice and beans. The location is big with plenty of parking and ample seating for groups. They also have a full bar. This place is great and worth the drive!

Our server was friendly and happy, but the quality of Felipe’s ended there. We dined in on 28 March for the first time (after many years of hype) and were immediately underwhelmed. At 5p on a Friday the dinner rush was non-existent yet it took about ten minutes to be seated, and an additional ten for menus, chips and salsa plus drink orders. The regular salsa was akin to refrigerated pizza sauce. The ‘spicy’ was the same with a touch of maybe cholula and the physical menus were worn and greasy. We ordered the pancho villa and neither of us could finish. It had zero flavor or seasoning. Pale ground beef and chunks of roast beef. It tasted of flour tortilla, shredded cheese and unseasoned boiled meat with a touch of pickled jalapeño and iceberg lettuce. Tasty. We’ve come to realize that Wichita simply doesn’t meet the mark if you’re accustomed to proper Mexican food from border towns throughout Texas and New Mexico or Mexico itself. Unfortunately, I can’t even say it’s a worth a stop for drinks plus chips and salsa (they also didn’t have the beer I ordered available).

This isn’t the place for authentic Mexican food, but it’s not the worst I’ve had. Salsa and green chili had some spice, and my kiddo liked his quesadilla. I had tamales and requested them smothered in chili con queso, definitely got Velveeta and Rotel. Solid beans and rice. I wasn’t a fan of my margarita but my husband’s was pretty good.
Service was friendly; restaurant was clean, however for a bar area with tons of TVs for sports, only one was on for the Chiefs game.

I’ve been going to Felipe’s for years, but unfortunately I don’t think we’ll be returning. We visited the West location last night, and the experience was extremely disappointing. Our waitress got nearly every order wrong, including drink orders, and some items were missing altogether. When the food finally arrived, it was clear the orders hadn’t been entered correctly. The food itself was horrible, and the drinks were watered down. It’s really sad to say, but after years of being a customer, this visit has completely changed my opinion.

The food was amazing. If they would elevate their cocktails, they’d be a solid 5. The margarita bucket was not my favorite.

Didnt care for this place too much, our order was wrong and someone tried to deliver someone else’s order to our table. There are mostly tables, not too many booths if you like a little seclusion. Food wasn’t as tasty as other places to me.

Came in when I was having a bad day, but this turned that around! Our server was wonderful and attentive, food was delicious and came quickly. Taking home leftovers too because my husband and I could only finish half our meal. I’m definitely not much of a leftover-eater but this is too good to leave!

This is always a great experience. The food is good and the staff is friendly. It’s not quite the same experience as the original location off West Street, and the food isn’t quite as good. Mostly, they don’t quite take care of you like they do at the original location, but it’s fun and great for the whole family and large groups too!
