Our name, Faye & Joe’s Southern Bowl, stems from the matriarch and patriarch of our family. Faye & Joe both passed the torch to their 12+ children, all of whom have various culinary skills, and all of which have come together, to bring to fruition a vision that our founders envisioned. Affectionately known as The Southern Bowl, we offer a unique experience taking you back to the days where families came together to dine and share our lives. Today was my second time trying their food. I am highly disappointed. I really love dressing but today the dressing was very gritty. Last time I didn’t order it because it looked dry. My catfish did not taste fresh. The fillet was way too dark and breading is off. The greens tasted unseasoned. The wait was long both times.

It’s a fast paced environment if you don’t know what to order I’d suggest you step out of line once you make your decision then just get back in line, if you are unsure of how to order the staff will assist you. This was my first visit and I will go again food was good. It was seasoned well. I went on a Sunday late afternoon and they have weekly specials I had the baked turkey wing greens and black eyed peas everything was delicious freshly cooked. My friend had the catfish and it was a short wait for it but it was delicious piping hot. Overall I would go back and the food was good most people did carry out but we dined in. You get your food already backed as take out and you can go and sit in the dining area there is plenty of seating and they keep the area clean. Would I go back yes I would

I drive 35 minutes away from my house to go to this place. I normally just walk in and get an order this particular time I ordered it online but when I get there, the young man goes and say I’m wrapping yours up now just have to bag it up 10 minutes past lady walks in. He comes back. Take care of the lady. She asked for extra stuff he was able to take the payment right there but forgot about me. he looks up. I’m begging your bag up now. The lady looks at me. I said yeah I heard that 20 minutes ago. The lady say that’s why I ordered 35 minutes ago. The young man overheard that and decided to give me a cake like this. He handed me the bag and ran away. that to me is very spiteful evilness take somebody’s money and treat them anyway that’s not good business so for the spiteful employees I will not be coming back there anymore

Went to this establishment yesterday(09/22/25) for the first and last time. We ordered the catfish dinner(the catfish was ok), meatloaf dinner ( was ok) and short rib dinner( not well seasoned nor cooked long enough). The sides were Mac n cheese(dry like the photo on their website), collard greens( had a nice taste to them but a little undercooked for my liking) yams (missing a whole lot of everything) red beans and rice( just horrible) black eyed peas and rice( horrible as well). The young lady taking our order seemed to be overwhelmed and had a nasty attitude until the manager came up front. Asked the lady whom was taking our order could we get fresh Mac n cheese because she was scrapping the side of the empty dish to give us what was stuck to the sides and she replied she has to give us that and they are not allowed to get a new pan until every bit is out of the pan all with a take or leave it attitude. Along comes a lady that I thought was the owner, asked her if she was the owner and she informed me that she wasn’t and that she’s a manager. I asked her how long do they keep the food out before switching it out, or what the policy that they have about the freshness of the food, she looked me dead in my face and said “First of all, Do you see how many people are in here?” “Does it look like anything stays out long around here?” “And to answer your question, everything is switched out when everything thing is completely empty.” “You have the option to step aside and wait for a fresh pan to be brought out or get something else.” I guess she told me huh? The only reason I kept it cute was one because people are always saying that “We’re are own worst enemy.” And two I still wanted to give the food a try which they say “Don’t judge a book by its cover. Cause although the place was packed the food was dry and nasty just like their attitudes. Business owner to Business owner, “It doesn’t matter how many customers you have coming through that door, But it most definitely matters how many will continue to return and support!!”

First time trying this restaurant today and was satisfied. Customer service was excellent, clean. Got there when they opened and let me tell you cars were pulling in exactly at 11a wow. People coming before church to get their fresh food for dinner. I walked in got in line for less than 10 min wait. Ordered catfish, collards, MacNcheese sat down and was pleased . Hubby got the same but with dressing. I know what time to get in and out.

My first time going there and I must say it’s a Vibe! From the food to the atmosphere was a 10 out of 10 for my family. The bathroom was very clean which I for one love. The food was seasoned perfectly! I had the turkey wing and it was everything I expected! The greens and the dressing were amazing so I highly would recommend this spot for a nice lunch or dinner outing! Oh can’t forget about the crew they were friendly and fabulous

The food was good and the overall bday dinner turned out to be a success but the planning required beforehand was off-putting. The customer service also seemed to decline after my relative made the deposit to secure tables. We were required to submit our food orders and group payments into at least 5 ppl to make things convenient for the staff. When we arrived, the restaurant was fairly empty yet we still had to wait 15+ minutes for items that we’d “pre-ordered” and they were out of at least 2 of the meats. What was the purpose of requiring the pre-orders?
A couple of the young ladies behind the counter also seemed overstimulated as if asking for anything additional like cranberry sauce or gravy was an irritant. There was a gem in the bunch though – Miss Nay/Nae was very kind to our entire group and had superior people skills! She was the only one I chose to deal with after I saw how the others were treating our group and other patrons.
Lastly, the bathrooms could use a deep clean, there was no paper towel in either bathroom, nor does this location have a changing table for those of us with small children.

Delicious! I just ate the most tender greens ever! The catfish was good, the yams were fabulous and the corn bread was tasty just not enough. And I had a slice of heaven…the coconut cake was insanely delicious (not pictured).

This is some of the best food I have ever eaten locally. I usually go to downtown Chicago for good food, but this will be my new favorite place! The short ribs and ox tail are on point. Super tender and seasoned to perfection.
