There were four of us we all got a little something different. The server was very kind and attentive she checked on us often and made sure we knew what we were getting. Well, shuck me sideways! Just got back from Fathom Steam Room & Oyster Bar in beautiful Carrabelle, Florida, and let me tell you – this place is the pearl of the Panhandle! As a dad who’s always fishing for compliments and a proud American who believes in life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness (especially when it involves seafood), I knew this was going to be one shell of a good time.
My brother Brandon was nervous about trying his first oysters – kept saying he was “shellfish” about the whole idea. But boy, did he come out of his shell! By the third dozen, he was slurping like a pro and declaring himself the “oyster whisperer.” I told him, “Brandon, you’re really on a roll… or should I say, on a half shell!”
Meanwhile, this old sea dog decided to try something new myself – my very first Michelob Light. Now, I’m usually a red-blooded Michelob ultra or Budweiser kind of guy, but when in Rome… or should I say, when in Florida! It went down smoother than my best dad jokes (and that’s saying something). The bartender asked if I liked it, and I said, “It’s not heavy, it’s my brother!” Get it? Like the old commercial? Classic!
The atmosphere was absolutely fin-tastic – you could really feel the Gulf Coast vibes washing over you like a good tide. The service was quicker than my reflexes when someone reaches for the last piece of cornbread, and the staff was friendlier than a golden retriever at a tennis ball factory.
The steamed clams were so good, they had me feeling a little… *steamed* that I’d never been here before! And don’t even get me started on their grouper – it was so fresh, I’m pretty sure it was still doing laps that morning.
Brandon kept making jokes about feeling “a little green around the gills” after all those oysters, but I think he was just being koi. This place really knows how to bait you in and reel you back for more!
This establishment is definitely worth diving into. It’s the kind of place that makes you proud to be an American – good food, good family, and good times by the water
Bottom line is that we’ll definitely be back faster than you can say “Red snapper!” Because at Fathom, every visit is absolutely sublime – and that’s no fish tale!
P.S. – I asked the waiter if they had any specials, and he said, “Yes, we have a special on dad jokes.” I said, “Perfect, I’ll take a dozen!”

Always a fresh catch! Had a 6oz blackened ahi tuna that was delicious! A side of steamed veggies that we’re delightfully seasoned and tasty. My friend had a seafood case of dia that was just beautiful. The food here is excellent. The service is attentive. Full bar if that is your persuasion

Found this place on our way back home and we’re so surprised how good the food was! The Blackened grouper sandwich on Texas toast was fantastic and so fresh tasting! The Tuna sandwich was awesome as well! Great view and atmosphere outside looking at the water and boats.

Raw oysters were good, oyster sampler was small oysters that just taste like the toppings. Crab and shrimp were cooked well and seasoned decent. Ahi tuna was cooked perfectly. Gumbo is more tomato based than Louisiana style. Good music outside on a chilly evening. Good spot to stop if you’re in the area.

I do NOT recommend this place. The food is disgusting! I tried to order a dinner off the menu. The menu stated it came with 2 sides. The server informed me that it came with no sides. I changed my order to the burger and cheese grits. Forget that! Cheese grits were nasty! I love grits! Have no clue what they gave me! Those were not grits! The burger was disgusting! I had my husnand and grandson try it. They agreed. My husband ordered a bottle of beer. Received a can that had been refrigerated then left out and back in the refrigerator so it had a nasty taste. My grandson’s oysters were nasty! I called elsewhere and placed a pick up order. Server asked about our food. Saw that I did not eat the burger. Not even a discount on the burger. We will NOT be back!!!
