We happened into this place by accident and were pleasantly surprised as far as dive bars go. And make no mistake – this IS a dive bar, but the food was yum and the beers were cheap (as in $1 per bottle). The tenderloins were flavorful and juicy.

The Fat Randi tenderloin is next level–a delicious thick tenderloin topped with bacon, ham, and magical sauce. Service was friendly and the bar is clean and very comfortable. I’ll definitely be back! It would be a great destination for a bike ride from Des Moines.

Stopped in for lunch, after some ice fishing. Great food, great staff, and locals joining in on some fishing stories. Overall awesome experience. Even when we left, the staff and locals waving us off wishing us good with our fishing.

I agree with some of the other reviews here about their Tenderloin sandwich. It is pretty good with a decent portion size. This place is about 10 min west of Des Moines and have great food but the decor is a little outdated.

Cafe and bar has the best onion rings and sandwiches bar none. Located in scenic downtown Van Meter, it’s one of only two places with sit down dining in town. It’s a tradition!!!!

The food and service is 5 stars. Medicjason has no clue what he’s talking about. If you want bad service and bad food then go down the street to Booneville. There is a reason this bar and grill has been open so long and never closed unlike its competition.
