We are an independent burger restaurant group specialising in the best burgers and dirty fries. Born in 2010 with roots in Newcastle Upon Tyne, our burger restaurants live all over the UK. Recognised for our quality ingredients and quirky flavours, we’re all about ‘good old fashioned, roll up your sleeves and get it all over your face’ food. Our signature beef and boneless buttermilk chicken patties come with free fries as standard. As well as our carefully designed range of vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free options available, our family friendly burger joint has a great value kids menu. My husband and I stopped by for dinner after scouring local restaurants online for somewhere that could cater to my dietary requirements.
Great variety and most of the menu can be served vegan, vegetarian or dairy free. We had a burger each and shared a plate of wachos (waffle fries with nacho toppings). The wachos and my burger were dairy free, my husbands burger had real cheese.
In my experience it’s rare to find vegan or dairy-free food that still tastes great to people who can have real dairy (if you know you know) but we both thoroughly enjoyed everything we had and you’d hardly have known there was anything different about our plates from looking at them. I didn’t order dessert but the milkshake options also had alternatives and I’m excited to try them next time we’re there.
We were served quickly, the staff were attentive and friendly, and the price was more than reasonable. We will definitely be back, and I’d recommend it to anyone.

My mate had just graduated and she invited me (a vegetarian) and her other mate along as guests and we went out for food to somewhere that caters for all us. I had plenty of option as a vegetarian. I went for a Vegan burger with a side of fries. On the burger was these delicious Cajun tater tots. WOW! Absolutely to die for. Excellent food, service and prices. David was our server and he was very attentive and friendly. 10/10.

We visited Fat Hippo and were served by Rosa and Carly, who were lovely and super attentive. We had trash browns, the PB+JJ and fat hippo burgers, and tried pickleback shots for the first time, which are such a dark horse! Highly recommend. Great vibes and really nice staff, lovely for a dinner with friends or a second or third date.

We’ve been to this restaurant in London before, but this one in Glasgow was so much better. The service was excellent, the staff were very friendly, and the toilets were spotless. We had a great experience overall and would definitely come back!

Came into Fat Hippo for the first time abroad in Scotland, had an absolutely fantastic meal with just the loveliest service, Rebecca made sure to have us be as comfortable as possible and gave us some good laughs. Will for certain be back next time we’re around. :))

Great wee spot! Good atmosphere with cool decor. First time at Fat Hippo. Service was great and I asked for there recommendation on the Plantbased burgers and was suggested to try the
NOTORIOUS VFC 2.0 which btw did not disappoint! Probably the best burger I’ve had all year. The fries and side of frickles were a tad under done. Maybe just a one off? However the burger definitely made up for the whole meal.

Our servers name was David and he was an absolute sweetheart! As usual I was super confused what to order and he was really calm and patient. Kept checking up on us which made our experience more special!
On top of that the food was really good. Specially for the person who eat vegan, I wasn’t disappointed at all!

The staff were really helpful and clued up with everything and they have halal chicken too! Although chicken is not gf, only beef, so the only option for me was the vegan burger. But I really liked it and would defos go again 🙂

Food was good, server asked us what condiments we wanted and then never came back with them. Finished our food without them and she still hadn’t noticed. Poor service let it down.

Visited for lunch a going to cinema with my children. It was a very hot sunny day and we got seated at front window, the sun beating through the window made for a uncomfortable experience, they need some form of sun shade for these rare occasions. The toilets are downstairs, they are clean. The downstairs seating is sir conditioned, if you like to be cool.
The food was amazing, generous portions and well presented. One thing to note, if you are asked if you wants sauce/dips be aware some cost extra, didn’t notice this until thr bill came. It does mention the costs in the menu, so be aware.
Overall, good food, not a 5 star on this occasion.
