Nice little greasy spoon kinda place. Probably my 6 year old’s new favorite diner (see the pic of the pancakes we got and you’ll see why). Reminds me of the diners I used to go to as a kid with my grandparents. Staff was super friendly and laid back, even though they were short staffed. Food was delicious and and portions pretty good for the cost. They have a lot of regulars. Place was about half full for Thursday dinner. Will definitely be coming back, and I wish I’d tried coming before now.

Hmmm It is definitely a greasy spoon kind of place. They were short staffed but not terribly busy on a Wednesday night. We shared a Reuben sandwich and they were more than gracious enough to give us two plates and they served us enough fries for two. Their beer selection wasn’t amazing but they had what was needed to make me happy! Hopefully people give this place enough of a chance to keep it open and to prove itself. We enjoyed the food. We weren’t so impressed with the atmosphere but the service was pretty good! Not sure if we will be back but we wanted to give it a shot. You should too!

I love to try the local diners and Fat Daves is a classic. It seemed like a lot of regulars were dining when I was in on a Thursday. No frills, actually kind of tired, but a good value meal. The taco salad I had was huge. The servers were kind. I don’t think many folks order a salad for dinner here……

The food was average diner fair, pretty good. The atmosphere was nice. Unfortunately our waitress was shady about how things were priced. As we went to pay there was a person in front of us who was also upset about the extra charge for soup. It says to pick a soup or salad with your chicken strips. We asked what the soup of the day was. She said what it was. We said okay that sounds great. She did not clarify that on Fridays, especially the soup actually cost more even though it’s the soup of the day.

Fat Daves is an absolute journey down nostalgia lane. From the, “Been there done that” waitresses to the old sign out front that has weathered to the point where it looks like it’s in Chinese characters, it is right out of central casting.
This is not a yuppie joint with hipsters dropping in with skinny jeans and laptops, it is a bastion of long time regulars, waitresses that know your name, and old farts with strong political opinions. I was actually entertained by the old dude who sat at the counter and pontificated loudly about non PC opinions while the long suffering waitress sat next to him nodding and accepting him. There is a lot going on here. Fat Daves is obviously more than just a hash slinging joint, it is a hub of a community, a home away from home.
I found the service exemplary in a way that only comes with a life long commitment to a profession. The waitress serviced my table with a practiced ease and efficiency the the hipper places can only dream of. It’s an effortless dance that moves from table to table with grace and confidence.
The split pea soup, which I have not had for more years than I care to admit (longer than many of you have been alive) was perfect and rolled out memories of mother and hearth. The chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and buried in country gravy was, although a heart attack on a platter, perfect. Comforting, filling, and packed with nostalgia. Who wants to live forever anyway?
I will admit, the place is probably not for everybody. It’s old school with no pretensions or interest in coming up to date. There is no signature arugula salad, or asian fusion sushi, but I can’t wait to try their BLT and I’ll bet their omelets are to die for.
I’d love to meet you there for lunch. Come hungry!

Decent old school diner with a classic vibe. There was only one other group of people on a Sunday afternoon, yet staff were all a bit gruff. Spouse ordered a bacon cheeseburger and I ordered the chicken fried steak, but we shared. We thought the burger and fries were good, but the chicken fried steak was lacking flavor. It was covered in a thick layer of pepper-less white gravy, so we added the pepper ourselves, but thought that was a bit weird. Not a bad place to get a bite to eat, but there are definitely better options around too.

With the right expectations, old time western diner, this place checks all the boxes.
Not fancy. Not first date. But friendly waitresses, decent food, and a vibe that will make a 60-year-old feel like they were about 10.
The bar was a very busy, and all the folks inside looked very happy.

The resultant is a little run down but from well use and not neglect it looks like, it is clean and the staff is very friendly.
I had the chicken fried steak breakfast with hasbrowns and basted eggs. Every bite was awesome! The gravy had big nice chunks of sausage in it!

Took my wife for a quiet, down-home lunch at Fat Dave’s. Miss Jenny, our server told us the specials coming in the door, then sat us quickly, took our order and served up a meal you just can’t find anywhere else. The level of service has always been off the charts. Fat Dave’s should be a Vancouver landmark, if not on the national horizon. Thanks for reminding me of the last 25 years of great service in this town. EAT AT FAT DAVE’S!!!!!

Food was average. Also ordered an unsweetened tea and it was less than average. Ordered the chicken fried steak with scrambled eggs. It was just ok. The diner is old and in need of a face lift to brighten up the place. Positive note, food portions are large and was well taken care of. I want to go back but not yet.
