Reviews
As sushi lovers and Beachwalk residents, we were thrilled when Fancy Sushi opened its doors right here in our community. Sushi is one of our favorite foods, and having a reliable, consistent, and convenient spot just a golf cart ride away has been a wonderful addition to local dining. Many Friday nights after the band finishes at the clubhouse, we have joined friends and caravanned over in a line of golf carts excited for a familiar and satisfying meal.
Ambiance and Décor
The interior of Fancy Sushi is warm and inviting, with a calming water feature at the entrance that sets the mood the moment you walk in. It is clean, modern, and comfortable, making it a place where you can settle in easily whether you are dining alone, picking up takeout, or coming with a group of neighbors. The welcoming atmosphere has helped it quickly become a regular stop for many Beachwalk families.
Menu and Drinks
Fancy Sushi offers a good selection of both sushi and cooked dishes, giving diners plenty of options regardless of their comfort level with raw fish. Susan especially enjoys the hibachi chicken and like the tempura shrimp. The sushi is consistently fresh, well prepared, and nicely presented. Beer, wine, and sake are available, which rounds out the menu nicely. Although we enjoy the rolls they offer, we would love to see more specialty creations added over time so returning guests can explore new flavors. The foundation is solid and we believe the restaurant has the potential to expand its variety and become an even stronger community favorite.
Food Quality
We have eaten at Fancy Sushi at least a dozen times since it opened and the food quality has always been consistent. The rolls are well made, the fish is fresh, and the portions are generous. The sushi chef is talented and occasionally surprises us with something special when we dine with a group. We have tried nearly every roll on the menu and have never been disappointed. Fancy Sushi has earned a spot on our list of dependable local go to restaurants for a reason.
Service
The service has always been one of the highlights. The staff is friendly, welcoming, and efficient, and they make you feel at home from the moment you sit down. One touch that we always appreciate is the complimentary appetizer they bring to the table as a welcome. It is a simple gesture, but it sets a warm tone for the meal and reflects the pride they take in caring for their guests.
Value and Pricing
Fancy Sushi offers very fair pricing, especially for the quality you receive. The lunch special is one of the best deals in the area, and for a small additional cost you can upgrade the California roll to a tuna roll which is a recommendation we strongly support. Portions are sized well and the prices make it easy to return again and again without making it a splurge.
Overall Experience
Fancy Sushi has become one of our neighborhood staples. It is not our top choice for a romantic date night, but it always delivers a fresh, enjoyable, and reliable meal. The service is warm, the food is consistent, and the convenience for Beachwalk residents cannot be overstated. If you love sushi and want a dependable spot close to home, this is a place you will find yourself visiting often.
The Culinary Duo Rating: ★★★★☆
We got the lunch special (3 rolls), Crunchy roll, and chicken hibachi.
I recommend coming here! The food is super good for a good price. This is our go to spot every time.
I’ve lived in Miami for 15 years, am a professional chef with over year’s experience and having operated a sushi bar myself, so my knowledge sushi and sashimi is better than average and knowing the local cuisine, my expectations were not high but this was a crime.
I sat at the sushi bar around 7pm on a Monday. Monday is usually a good day for fresh fish in restaurants fyi. Had to do with restocking after the weekend. All fish that is consumed raw is frozen at some point, but that clearly doesn’t matter hear as all they use is frozen fish blocks aka saku block. On display was some raw tuna, salmon and escolar; probably all saku block as the “sushi chef’s” were definitely on an amateur level; western style knives being used and poor knife skills were on display. Not a great impression but whatever. Amuse Bouche came and I was surprised but immediately unimpressed by what was cold Krab stick tempura with eel sauce. (Sorry no pic. I typically just eat my food without documentation. )
Clear soup. Which was slightly below average. You can’t screw up HonDashi and bonito broth.
Beverage was bottled water. Fiji. The star of the meal.
Entree came after about 15 minutes waiting.
This was by far the worst “American style sushi” I have had. The rolls were falling apart. The rice was flavorless, hard and nonexistent. All of the fish was cut in thick chunks of it wasn’t paste. I had a roll where they put the spicy tuna paste that looked like cat vomit on the outside of the roll, huge tuna and avocado chunks on the inside and stale tempura flakes all over. Texture was disgusting and the presentation was disgraceful!!!!! They literally use plastic plants and led lights on my plate. The sasa bamboo leaf is plenty if the food looks appealing, which it did not. These reusable decorations go on every plate, people. Plastic is not edible and these things probably aren’t very sanitary but whatever.
My recommendation is the two story Publix on IGP and 16. It is seriously way better than this for action of the price. If you go early enough you can get a custom poke bowl which is actually pretty good. Kyu Ramen on old baymeadows road has pretty consistent and tasty ramen. My favorite is the curry tonkatsu. They also have best takoyaki in town.
If you made it his far I appreciate your time and wish you well. Cheers
