Fancy Bagels is a place with personality, humor, and a clear sense of self. It does not announce itself loudly, but it does not need to. The moment you step inside, it is clear this is a shop more concerned with good food and good energy than polished uniformity.

The atmosphere carries an organized charm. Lively, slightly unpredictable, and refreshingly unconcerned with presentation for presentation’s sake. It feels authentic. The sort of place that exists to serve proper bagels first and let everything else fall into place naturally.

Across the street sits Panera Bread, the two establishments facing one another all day like boxers before the bell. One polished, predictable, and corporate. The other expressive, independent, and entirely uninterested in playing the same game. It is a quiet standoff, and the result becomes obvious the moment food is involved.

We ordered the Asiago bacon, egg, and cheese bagel sandwich, which remains my gold standard for judging all bagel sandwiches. Fancy Bagels delivered with authority. The bacon was applied generously and without apology. The eggs and cheese were fresh, well prepared, and balanced, allowing the bagel itself to remain the anchor of the sandwich.

This was not a delicate breakfast. It was a satisfying one. The kind that earns loyalty through substance rather than spectacle.

Somewhere between bites, a harmless thought drifted in. Why are seagulls called seagulls? If seagulls lived by the bay, they would surely be called bagels. It felt like precisely the kind of observation Fancy Bagels would approve of.

The only regret was missing out on one of their excellent ball caps, which were sold out at the time. A minor disappointment and a promising sign. I will be back the next time I am in Connecticut, and with any luck, so will the hats.

Fancy Bagels is the kind of place that makes you cross the street with purpose. A decision guided less by convenience and more by good judgment.

Such a great place! This place was packed during the weekend but the line was moving fast and everyone was happy. I tried the Tommy Special breakfast sandwich after one of the staff recommended and it didn’t disappoint!! So much flavor! This was my first time here and I was a little bit overwhelmed by so many choices for bagels and cream cheese varieties! I wasn’t expecting such a big list but they have something for everyone! They also recommended a caramel biscotti ice coffee and it was delicious! Had some bagels to go and my whole family was impressed. My son loved the chocolate chip bagel with Oreo cream cheese, my daughter loved the blueberry bagel with blueberry cream cheese and my husband opted for the Asiago cheese bagel with Jalapeno schmear. This place it’s a hidden gem with a casual atmosphere and a big heart!

I just discovered this place on a trip to the AT&T store. I think the bagels are better than Olmos, and unlike everyone else, I went during the week and did not have to wait! I’ve tried the Asiago and Everything bagel. Both were soft with just the right amount of chewiness. My new go to bagel place!

This place is a 4.5 on my imperfect scale of grading.

First time there was today. The older lady with the short cut at the register feels like grandma. She’s so nice.

I love the plate it forward idea. The line was literally out of the door. From standing in line to getting food to walking out of the other door took 15mins.

I had two orders and both were made well. I had the bagel with cream cheese and bacon. I would have liked a little more bacon for the price but they did very well with the cream cheese. Bagel was tasty. Not sure why the asiago bagel had a mild taste of onion flavor which was unique.

My wife seemed to enjoy her bagel (pictured). The contents of the bacon egg and cheese seemed thin however my wife didn’t mind.

(Thin compared to a place like Neil’s Donuts)

I have been a loyal customer of Fancy Bagels in Southington since 1990. The quality of the food and the service is outstanding. The value is unmatched. The owner (Dom) and his mom (Jackie) are the most authentic and caring people I know. They are an invaluable asset to the Southington community. Fancy Bagels in Southington is a shining example of what is right with the world.

This places awesome. Always fresh, always good. The line can get a little long sometimes, but that’s to be expected for good food. I spend less money here than I would at McDonald’s, and I’m actually getting real meat instead of a pink slime Patty.

I moved to CT recently; there is no decent bagel place near me, and I’m sorry but DD is not where you go for bagels (having grown up near NYC, I know a good bagel :). I drove 45 minutes to check this place out because the reviews looked good. Bagels are PHENOMENAL. The quality is outstanding, they use quality ingredients, and the food is always consistent. The staff is friendly and courteous. I have had their breakfast sandwiches, the Tommy Special (omg), and the large list of flavored coffees is the cherry on the sundae. I’ve had the Coconut Almond Fudge, the Maple French Toast, the Pumpkin Spice, but my favorite is the Caramel Nut Biscotti. There is unflavored coffee as well. I drive 45 minutes from the shoreline to come here, that’s how good it is. And I come here a LOT – Love love love!!!!!
One more thing – owner Jackie is so sweet and such a good person; she is always doing charitable things for the local community. Right now, there is a food donation board (see photo) and a donation box for veterans (I believe they are currently asking for 2024 calendars) . This is more than just a business to her – you can see how she cares for the community. I am proud to give my business to this place.

The Bagel drought of 2025 is over. I haven’t been told that specialty bagels have been sold out in months. Not sure if it is the longest streak of good luck ever, or they changed how many of the lesser varieties they are making, but it has been awesome.

I don’t know if Dominic is still the owner but my mom was married to his dad Mike. Unfortunately she passed away in February. Mike passed several years ago but Dominic was a great guy and had amazing bagels. I believe he also used to sell to the former pappy coffee house downtown
