The Original Famous Uncle Al’s is located on Shore Drive in Virginia Beach. Al Stein, aka “Famous Uncle Al”, began serving up the best hot dogs around in 1985. He previously worked in his family’s deli in Rockaway, bringing his Brooklyn roots to Virginia Beach. The rest is history in the making! We are the original Famous Uncle Al’s, where it all started. We enjoy serving both the local community and tourists who stop in! While there are several Famous Uncle Al’s restaurants in the area, they are all slightly different. We’ve served generations over the years, watching families grow and providing a sense of community, while serving some of the yummiest food around! Our service comes with a smile and maybe a joke or two.

I’ve been going to Uncle Al’s since I was a little girl, and it honestly hasn’t changed a bit in the best way possible. It’s classic, consistent, and homey. They have the best hot dogs and hamburgers in Virginia Beach, hands down.
The staff is incredible so nice, so friendly, and most of them have been there forever. It feels like everyone knows you, even if they don’t.
No matter which location you go to, you’re guaranteed a delicious meal and a warm, welcoming environment, whether you’re eating solo or with friends.

Terrible customer service. The sign on the door states that the grill closes at 4:45 pm. The employee saw me getting out of my car and locked the door at 4:40 just as I approached it. Then the other employee who was already cleaning the grill, before 4:45 pm looked at me and mouthed that thay are already closed. If they are going to close before the posted hours, change them!

Not sure why but I came in with low expectations and boy was I pleasantly surprised. The place was packed with people. The server was very nice. Food was excellent and exceeded my expectations by a long shot. Prices are extremely great too. Highly recommend.

Trust me I was reluctant when my husband shouted out oooh let’s get hot dogs. We were in VA beach and it didn’t seem like the meal I had imagined. But once we got in and sat down we realized the hotdogs were all boards head, so I decided that I would go thru with it. We ordered fried pickles that were AMAZING, and then hotdogs with our toppings and shared a drink. I was pleasantly pleased and enjoyed lunch! A place I will return to for sure… especially for the fried pickles.

I was starving and decided to get some hot dogs. When I arrived it was semi busy and no one, even workers, was wearing masks so I was a little uneasy but ate anyway. I ordered 2 dogs with fries, sourkraut, ketchup and mustard. It was very inexpensive. The service was pretty good. The hot dogs were just ok.
