Ordered two brisket sandwiches and wet cracklings which I never heard of until a friend mentioned them to me. The sandwiches have plenty of meat are moist and flavorful. The wet cracklings are a local favorite. There are regular cracklings and chicken cracklings that taste so good. They have a seasoning on top that made them taste just right and weren’t overcooked either. They also offer some Louisiana sweet treats from other vendors. Very nice that they support one another! If you’re wanting a good barbeque sandwich or some homemade cracklings…this is it!

The brisket was tender and had a good smokey flavor. The chicken was dry, but the skin had a good smokey flavor. The BBQ sauce wasn’t that great too me. The rice dressing didn’t have any flavor. It tasted like it was watered down. The potato salad had to much of a mustard flavor. I had to eat the beans with the potato salad to balance the flavor out. I was not impressed for 100$ worth of food. I want take that lost again.

The name should be Famous Cracklings! Yes, this is why I cannot go through Lake Charles at no time without stopping and getting some cracklings to go. I am from Houston and was introduced to this place some time ago and immediately was hooked! They have three types of cracklings: regular, chicken, and that wet! Yes that’s how they call it. That wet! It is the regular crackling soaked in this spicy ️ hot sauce that makes the crackling melt in your mouth! It is so good that you may want to stop eating it because of that heat but you keep popping them in your mouth due to the goodness! Because I am on the road, I also will get some boudin balls, a pulled pork sandwich, or a sausage sandwich. These items are snaked to perfection as well. You can drive up to the window and order or go inside and there is a sitting area and restroom. You can also get cold items to go as well. Now the only problem I have with the place is it hires young people to take your orders and they are terrible! This is as of recently in my last two visits in 2025! Like have no people skills. I went inside to look at the cracking and the line in the drive through was and usually long. Oh something to remember when ordering is the cracking comes by the pound. One pond cost around $24.99. You can buy a quarter or half a pound and even ask for a little more than a half a pound etc. it’s not a whole lot when you look at it but don’t cheat yourself and get up the road like me and say, “I should have gotten more!” now I start off with a pound of each period! You won’t regret it, I promise! Another key is when you eat down that wet, you can add some regular to the depleted bag and shake it to wet up some more! Now it may not be as soaking as the original but that flavor gets all on the regular and makes for more good eating with a lot less heat. Lastly because I am always passing through I have to plan my trips so I come during times of operation. They open at 9:30 am and closing around 6:00 pm I think. Not too sure of the closing. Not open on Sundays!

I drove from practically Texoma to this establishment to purchase cracklin. I had never heard of it but the first time I tasted it, I thought it was a flook! The cracklin was so soft, extremely well seasoned, and tasted like a bite size pork chop. However, I drove over 6 hours to come back and this time I purchased a pound of the spicy (wet) and a pound of the regular (dry) and I’m sure I now have high blood pressure!! It was worth the drive and the temporary high blood pressure. This stuff definitely has addictive properties but I almost ate the entire two pounds… needless to say I am planning my next trip back. Let me not forget to mention how friendly and pleasant the staff has been on both occasions.

Best hog cracklins in Lake Charles. A little on the pricier side at $20 a lb but we’ll worth it. I’m adding to this review because I stop here Everytime I come to town. These people know what they are doing. The smell is intoxicating as you walk in the building. The staff is super friendly and the food tastes AMAZING.
