Ernie’s is an absolute treat you must try at least once living in the state college area. The ribeye they use is top-quality and their bread is great. Make sure you get their cheese whiz as it’s on point and very good compared to shitty Penn steaks. I am a student here at psu originally from the Philly area and after trying so many Philadelphia cheesesteaks I can certainly say Ernies is most definitely the top of the line classic philly cheesesteak you can get here. Not only that but they are cheap, go with a friend and buy two cheesesteaks there for only $19, that’s considerably cheaper than any cheesesteak you can get in the Philadelphia area considering they’re about $14-$16 apiece.

Famous Ernie’s Steaks is a nice little spot in State College with good service and friendly staff. The place is pretty small, so you might have to wait outside during busy times, but the line moves quickly. The food is okay — nothing fancy, but it hits the spot when you’re craving a quick cheesesteak or fries. Overall, it’s a solid local stop for a simple, satisfying meal.

I love their burgers but the cheesesteak hasn’t been hitting lately. I found that the cheesesteak had too many onions that weren’t properly diced and the ratio between meat and onions was off and the cheese is just slapped on top instead of being incorporated as you would expect from cheesesteaks. The staff is nice though but I won’t be repeating the cheesesteak.

Don’t quite understand all the bad reviews here because Ernie’s serves quality cheesesteaks. Cooper sharp and onions is the way to go here. Not the best cheesesteak I’ve ever had but it’s likely a top 2-3 steak in town

Ngl I used to like this place and their food is good but I found it really odd how in a span of 1-2 months the cheese steak went from $12 to $17 and they said the lettuce and onion was $5 smh.
I paid without looking because the menu price didn’t change ($12) but then I felt betrayed after looking at the receipt ($17)
they did me dirty and employees get it for $6 meanwhile I was billed $17 and it was no mistake because i questioned it and was shocked to learn it was not a mistake but actual pricing.

The jerk processing orders at the front has an exceptional habit of being short tempered and rude. Do you genuinely think that in times like this your unsavory behavior will resonate with patrons? When I first interacted with this man I dismissed it as an isolated instance. I’m now leaving this restaurant after my third visit wondering why I chose to dine here. I’d recommend any one seeking common decency to dine elsewhere.
