One of the coolest parts is the open layout—you can actually see the team making pastries, bread, and other items right in front of you. It gives the whole experience an authentic, artisanal feel. What really stands out though is the energy. The entire family is involved, and you can feel how much love and passion they pour into this place. It’s more than a bakery—it’s their dream in motion. Can’t recommend it enough.
Anyone stopping by this morning shortly after opening time would have seen us going from display case to display case, feeling so happy to find hand made honey cakes, dolma grape leaves with rice, bakhlava, lahmajoun Armenian pizza, beef pelmeni, napoleons, carrot cake, pomegranate juice, fruit preserves, young walnut conserve, and pepper sauces. The hand made pita and smoked cheeses are so delicious! I even zoomed in on a beautiful rye bread from Lithuania.
I found containers of sesame seeds for my own breadmaking.
We had to step away from all these wonderful creations and we finally left with two bags filled with pita, dolmas, walnut conserve, honey cake, eclair, pelmeni, rye bread, and napoleon.
This shopping area is easy to reach right west of Portola on the 111.
The owners, Diana and Ashwan are extremely talented and helpful. They offer savory foods like kebabs, puri bread, stuffed meat pies.
Their foods are also available on Door Dash they told us.
Recently they increased their hours to 9am to 8pm only closing on Tuesdays.
We are so excited to find this beautiful shop with delicious foods. Run-don’t walk to see what’s there!!
Updated Sept 8 2024 : operations seem to be expanding and filling out. Please check back frequently for new offerings. Much more available now.
The staff is nice, you can tell that they do it with love and really family-style which makes everything better.
Thank you family bakery! Can’t wait to be back for more things! Yum.
The wait time is kinda long for the food sometimes though
I love the baklava
I’ll come back yummy
We sat inside in the small bistro table, just the two of us. We had the Lahmajun with meat to start, for each of us. Very good texture and flavorful. We enjoyed the chicken Kebab, the plate was enough for us both to share, the meat so juicy and flavorful. Fresh! She did explain it would be 25 minutes for them to cook it fresh, worth the wait! We had her favorite Black Curant Drink (Kalinov Lemonade) and we’re glad she suggested it, it was tasty and sweet, paired well with the savory food. We both saved just enough room for the Honey Cake (Medovik) and it was amazing. Kind of like a Honey Tiramisu? Great texture, flavor, and filled with a variety of tastes. It was great! Next time we will definitely try their Baklava, wanted to get some homemade Hummus too.
All in all, the place was very good. We will definitely return in the future. Look forward to it and getting to know the owners more during our next visit.
