We ordered the Pimento Cheese, which was beautifully presented with a cheese spreader, toasted baguette slices, crackers, and pickled vegetables—perfect for sharing. The Bar Escargot was another standout—rich, garlicky, and well-prepared.
This is a great place to unwind with a drink and a shared appetizer. The location is unbeatable, just steps away from free public parking, making it convenient for a quick stop or a longer hangout.
⚠️ Heads-up: The outdoor bar area is a designated smoking section, so it might not suit those looking for a smoke-free environment.
We chose this place because it has a nice range of adult food and they are open until 10 PM. We decided spur of the moment to go out and were shocked by how early most places roll up the carpet!
We started with craft martinis, my husband the cucumber basil and I the French. The drinks were part of an extensive selection from the full bar.
Our appetizer was mussels in white wine. The chef had selected perfectly and steamed them with capers, tomato pieces and shallots. They were served with a crusty French bread and were soft delicate and delicious.
My husband had fish and chips which must have been good because he finished everything!
I had the bison/beef blend meatloaf with French beans and Brussels sprouts. The menu offered mashed potatoes but I swapped them for a second vegetable and the waitress had accidentally served asparagus so I got 3 veggies, bonus! The meatloaf was very solid and covered in a light glaze instead of a heavy gravy. It was delicious and savory but I couldn’t finish it!
We each had a second drink with dinner, I opted for a glass of red wine with my meal. The waitress suggested a red blend which paired perfectly and was jammy without being overly sweet.
Everything was so good that we splurged and had dessert. My husband had the chocolate layer cake, which was light and fluffy with a different filling between layers. I had the peanut butter pie. This dessert is so rarely offered that when I find it I can’t resist! I wasn’t disappointed, this light fluffy mousse like pie was on a graham cracker crust topped with real whipped cream.
The check for all that came to $145.00, which seems pretty fair considering what everything else costs these days.
Plus, when we got there, Kat Orlando was entertaining. She and her guitarist played a wide variety of covers that showed off her vocal range, sax and flute playing.
The only drawback to the entire experience was that the room itself is very loud. Floor to ceiling windows, tile floors, all reflect and amplify sound, but it wasn’t enough to sour what turned out to be a great dining experience.
Looking for fresh tasting food – go to FM Dons. Looking for a unique location to eat, meh – not so much.
Decent service off-season. It was nice to be able to sit outside, but really no atmosphere to speak of. Just sidewalk dining.
The true benefit of FM Dons is their food. Great job with all 3 sandwiches we had after a stroll through the Saturday morning farmers market in PG.
