Quick pitstop after seeing so many positive comments and reviews plus award winning pub. Lovely atmosphere. Chilled music. Excellent selection of beers and real ales. Didn’t eat but the menu looks excellent and very reasonably priced. Their chip wrecked dirty fries at only a fiver looked incredibly appetizing and great value. We’ll be back for food next time!

After looking at other Google reviews we stopped off for a bite to eat on my way through Derby. We weren’t disappointed. The food is excellent, the home made burger was delicious. My only criticism is a personal preference, a little too much salt on the chips. Other that that it was delicious.

We made a reservation over the phone the day before because this place tends to get busy. We showed up at the door and stood for a while there like lemons. One particular guy wearing a black shirt, part of the kitchen staff just kind of stood in the kitchen occasionally glancing at us through the window like a simpleton.

Once we were finally seated and ordered we were told the wait for food will be up to 40 minutes which is pretty crazy.

I had the royal kebab for £20.50. Very pricey but ultimately worth it. Some of the fries were a bit overdone and a little hard. The default sauces were an interesting choice, guacamole and tzatziki. I didn’t think the latter worked so well. The skewers consisted of three meats with different marinades, chicken, beef and pork. The pork was dry and it was hard to detect the jerk seasoning. The beef was very good, well roasted and the middle eastern seasoning was not bad. The chicken was incredible and the seasoning/marinade, a Korean something was really good. The skewers also came with mushrooms and peppers, the former of which was really good too.

Ultimately while the kitchen staff/waiter were clueless and the wait was very long and we were sat next to a big table with loud voiced cackling women, the royal kebab was really good and totally defied my expectations (mostly that chicken).

Also my friend had the vegetarian tajine and found it to be mediocre.

Nothing but high praise for the Exeter Arms , good service , lovely atmosphere, and superb food. This was our first visit but we certainly will return. Great value and a relaxed night out. Mains are around £18 but worth every last penny.
Note : book in advance if you want food at the weekend.

Highly recommended.

Popped in here for a quick drink on the way to the cricket ground. The smell of home cooked food when we walked in was heavenly. The staff were lovely and very helpful when trying to decide on a drink to have, and the food was absolutely outstanding!! We were recommended this place by some locals who we spoke to and highly recommend this to anyone looking for a good meal with brilliant service.

Not been for a while so went today with my son.. I went for pork Sunday dinner.. if u like a massive portion this is great.. veg potatoes and Yorkshire were amazing. I was a little disappointed in the pork there was plenty of it but slightly thin. My son had a burger was a good size with some lovely homemade chips.. that was perfect just the bacon was a little under. All in all good experience and will be returning to try more on the menu.

Love the brewery… love their pub. Warm, homely and serving their beers well. We didn’t eat… but were very envious of what other punters were being served… looked good.

Managed to get the last table available here on a Friday evening, worth booking in advance. Great menu with good vegetarian options and loads of ales. Really friendly staff that told you the wait time on food at the onset. Food was very good and reasonably priced, really great atmosphere also. Its only a short walk from the town centre and certainly worth a visit.
