Service was really good. One of the better places to eat in Ramona.
1. Their cook – apparently their only one – was off on maternity leave and the only menu items available were a few salads and half-dozen pizza choices. So much for a mouth watering menu.
2. Water was delivered, bottled water at a price. We weren’t asked if we wanted bottled water (rarely), but I guess that makes it high end, right?
3. We ordered an expensive chicken pizza. The flavor and presentation was good, but the 12” size (pre cut in four slices) didn’t speak high-end, and it was over cooked, hard to chew. The old Amici’s restaurant at this location had larger delicious pizzas at half the price. Underwhelming.
4. Their only two dessert choices cannoli and berries with cream. We went elsewhere for dessert. Personal choice.
5. After their months of preparation, we were surprised the walls were as blank as a prison wall, not a single display of ambiance. There was fairly loud music playing, which I guess makes it a high-end atmosphere (not).
6. The service was good.
Bottom line – two salads and a pizza where $60+, but not rising to the level of a high-end dinning experience. We hope you stay in business and reach the goals you have set.
On to the mains, my son ordered the “Braised Ragout”. Wild boar and a liberal amount of tender braised short rib nestled with house made pappardelle pasta. Outstanding dish. I ordered the “Capocollo Pizza”. Tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, house wild boar sausage, Sicilian oregano, fennel pollen and chili. Light, thin crust, perfectly charred with a nice chew. So easy to eat the whole thing. The combination of toppings was such a combustion of flavor. Highly recommended.
Although the walls remain completely barren, bleak and lifeless it was still a very enjoyable dining experience. It was a nice break from the sensory overload you experience at a place like Buca di Beppo or Cracker Barrel. And their music playing in the background added a great vibe. I liked it. Evino is definitely a must visit and is most worthy of my wholehearted endorsement!
Update (Nov 4):
Visited a second time and everything was excellent. Except the spaghetti & meatballs dish. Seemed as if it had been sitting for a considerable period of time. Spaghetti was just warm, with the sauce completely soaked into the overcooked pasta. Meatballs were stone cold. My wife ordered the filet mignon and it was exquisite! Surprisingly good and perfectly cooked medium rare. Caesar salad was large, delicious and well dressed. The croutons however were particularly hard and crispy. Service remains delightful and professional, although fairly deliberate and methodical; we were the first ones seated and spent nearly two hours there.
Service is out standing and prices are very good , I am highly recommend this place and definitely coming back .
Wasn’t busy at all. The food was great and so was the service.!
