Good place for southern style take out. Their fried chicken was crispy, juicy and well seasoned. Their fries however were a disappointment and felt limp.
Overall, good VFM and the fried chicken hits great. The place has very limited seating and usually has a few people waiting around. So would not recommend for dine-in.
But a great takeaway option especially since they operate late night when most places in Evanston are closed

Chicken was fresh and cooked perfectly- crispy, moist, and glistening inside. Gator bites were great – good ratio of batter to fish. Mashed potatoes and gravy were good too! Not sure if the recent criticisms of this restaurant were warranted – because to me, the food was spot on!

Rick and his talented crew have been cranking out the best fried chicken and other delicacies at this location for over 30 years. You learn a few things about fried Chicken in that time, first and foremost, how to get your breading and seasoning just right, any boy, these guys have it down. I tried the chicken tenders and between the succulent chicken and just the right breading, they were first class. Stop in for great customer service and even better food !!

Ever since I moved to Evanston, I Loved the chicken shack, It’s local, about five minutes from my house and it’s pretty cheap. I usually get it once every few weeks but unfortunately, this will be the last time that I eat from there. I ordered my usual : rib tips, and as I was eating them, I noticed that there was a strand hair in my mouth. Thinking I was perhaps moving too fast and grabbed a strand of mine- I have straight hair- I didn’t think much of it and decided to be more careful. However that wasn’t the case. I moved around the rest of the food to inspect it and make sure I wasn’t crazy and in fact the were SEVERAL strands of hair wrapped around several rib tips. I am completely disgusted. I didn’t want new food, I didn’t even want a refund but i definitely called and told them that , that was completely unacceptable. I’m not sure wth they be doing behind that corner preparing food but I’m never eating from there again and if you continue to, CHECK YOUR FOOD!

This little shack shows signs of aging, but the food never gets old. I could indulge in the fried whole chicken wings on a daily basis. The wings are flavorful and hot and crispy when served. The accompaniments of fries, biscuit, mashed potatoes w/ gravy, or a slice of bread are equally delicious. My father loves the fried chicken gizzards with honey BBQ sauce.
The prices are competitive and the customer service is great.

Whenever we are in Evanston, this is consistently one of the places we like to visit! The chicken is simply delicious! We always get the whole wings, but I’m sure that the flats and drums are also very well done. The french fries are just OK, though. And, they always put a couple of pieces of bread in the bottom of the basket for you. Nothing terribly special there (it is nice to have for those who enjoying that piece of bread or want to make a quick sandwich out of a piece of chicken).
The parking lot is tight and small. However, you tend to not spend too much time there as it’s completely a pick up spot, these days. This was my graduate school special and is still one of my favorites! Highly recommended.
