My recent visit to Estrella de Oro in Carmel was honestly one of the most disappointing dining experiences we’ve had.
To start, my mom ordered a quesadilla that came on a wheat tortilla. She is used to white tortillas and simply did not care for the taste. She took one bite and let the server know right away that she didn’t like it and wanted to send it back. Instead of just taking the item off the bill, they told her they could offer a discount, but when we went to pay, no discount was applied at all. She ended up being charged for the quesadilla she didn’t eat and also had to pay for another meal, which felt very unfair and unprofessional.
The drinks were also disappointing. For over $22, they tasted watered down, and even after paying extra for an added shot, they still weren’t good.
As for my food, I ordered enchiladas, one steak and one chicken. The steak was okay, but the chicken was awful and lacked flavor. Overall, the food, drinks, and customer service did not match the price point or the expectations of an upscale restaurant.
The biggest issue was the lack of care when a customer clearly says they don’t like something after one bite. That should have been handled better. Based on our experience, I would not recommend this restaurant. Literally threw it away the same night it was brought home

The food was beyond amazing! Every dish was a perfect balance of flavor and presentation. You can tell the chef is incredibly talented!! ❤️ each plate felt like a personal expression of their passion for cooking. It’s rare to find food that’s this thoughtful and elevated without feeling pretentious.

The camarones tampiquenos came out very nice. The creamy wine sauce and shrimp were fresh and seasoned well. The street corn wasn’t too salty like some places and the jamaica and horchata agua frescas were both very refreshing. They take it up a level. Look forward to coming back.

This restaurant is awesome! They have great food great service and it’s all reasonably priced, right in the middle of downtown Carmel… What are you people waiting for!

this Mexican restaurant is now called ESTRELLA DE ORO (GOLDEN STAR) and while it may look closed from the outside, it’s open!
I have enjoyed the quesadillas, the fajitas, the tacos, and of course the special price margaritas!
Also, they have those really fresh, thin tortilla chips with tomato salsa brought to your table upon being seated.
This is one of those places where you can be an absolute pig and still have some to take home!
There’s lots of flatscreen TVs if you’d like sports or American ninja and a great mix of Mexican tunes.
Special, thanks to Elizabeth my server I’ve had her twice, and she actually makes the food taste better with her beautiful smile and amazing personality!
My only suggestion would be to turn ON on the patio lights so people know you’re open!… lAlso, maybe dim the inside lights a little at dinner time
UPDATE: I happened to drive by the restaurant the night after writing this review and noticed a beautifully lit patio with elegant lighting. fantastic lights on around the patio even though it’s in the middle of winter…this restaurant genuinely strives to improve and takes customer feedback seriously. Love that!

For starters the guacamole is very good, cheese dip is good. The green serrano pepper sauce has a nice spice and it’s very good on the carnitas. The new style burrito is huge. Mexico city enchiladas were tasty. We’ll be back

My favorite restaurant in Carmel. Delicious, large portions, beautiful presentation, and I think they make the best Pico I’ve ever had. The staff are so friendly. I highly recommend Estrella de Oro.

If you are looking for a fancy upscale restaurant this isn’t it- but the food and service this evening were great! We got the camarones tampiquenos and the oxacan enchiladas. It came out well seasoned and plated well! The rice was shaped like a pyramid and there were pretty garnishes like edible flowers. There were good options that (surprisingly) strayed away from the typical American “Mexican” food. They had pozole, mole enchiladas, chile rellenos, etc. Sad that some negative reviews are saying they wanted this to be a “ground beef” and “Tex-mex” place. There’s so many restaurants like that already…if that’s what you want then go somewhere like that lol..??

My wife and I decided to go on a quick impromptu date. Middle of the day. Looks like we have found our new favorite restaurant for Mexican style food. In Carmel, IN. The food was great! The chips came with 2 different salsas and a spicy jalapeño crema…amazing!! I went with the traditional steak burrito, it was great! I also had a day drink! It was called the Acapulco. I posted a before and after 🙂 . My wife had a bowl, it had so many fresh ingredients. And several special touches that just took the dish to another level. Asencio was our server, he was fantastic. They have really elevated the menu and ambience.

We went about a week ago on a whim and were shocked at how good this was! Live music was amazing, lively environment, super friendly service and the shrimp fajitas, queso and chips, and quesadilla were delicious! New favorite in Carmel ❤️
