I’ve been coming to Esther’s Cajun Café & Soul Food for a while now, and this time I finally got the oxtails. Let’s talk about those first.
I’m usually a little hesitant about spending $35 on an oxtail plate, but these were absolutely worth it. Super tender, seasoned just right, and perfectly balanced with the rice. No complaints at all — easily a 10 out of 10.
I always get the mac & cheese when I’m here, and it never misses. Creamy, flavorful, and consistent every time — another 10 out of 10. The cabbage is also always good and cooked just right.
And I never leave without dessert. Their carrot cake is really good. Last time I came, the slice looked smaller so I skipped it, but this visit it looked like they went back to the original portion size, which made me very happy. I grabbed one this time and it did not disappoint.
All in, I spent about $50, and it was worth every dollar. Definitely enough food that I won’t be eating it all in one night. Overall, great food, great quality, and consistent flavors. I’ll definitely keep coming back.

I went to ESTHER’S on July 31 (sorry so late with this). This was my first time visiting. The decorations were appropriate and decent. The restroom was clean as well. Now, I wanted beef tips or turkey necks [imagine my surprise at the food prices…] I was informed that they don’t serve many things on the weekends but THEY DEFINITELY serve OXTAILS. Problem is, I don’t care for ooxtails. I winded up getting the fried chicken, cabbage and Yams and I got hubby the oxtails, beans and cabbage. My chicken was very tasty. The other food was OK. The cabbage was not fully cooked so it was sort of crunchy and the beans were SALTY!!! BE WARNED…THE OXTAIL PLATES ARE HIIIIGGGGHHHH -$30.95 and he got 4!!!! My total was $64.92 for 2 plates. I had a cooler soda [16oz] too ($4.99)! My plates were fixed and placed withthe Door Dash orders. I had to ask for them, smh. The staffer was not so nice. The sides were limited as wrll, so read the menu CLOSELY. Certain foods are served on certain days. All in all the food was ok but use caution when going! Hubby also visited bar and got a bucket of beer and a small margarita, and that was $42.46. Not very much for the money spent. I MIGHT go back, idk. They also had a live band that day, which i really enjoyed!

Been really craving cajun food and decided to finally come try out Esters. I’ve passed by plenty of times and today was the day. My bf and I had walked in not knowing what to expect. Mannn, when I tell you everything slapped, it did. My expectations were EXCEEDED. The crawfish and shrimp étouffée was the savory and spicy. The ox tails were cooked perfectly and the greens were just right. EVEN THE SOFT CORN BREAD had me on the floor. The mac n cheese is the only thing I will say needed a little more love. Other than that 10/10 and I will be back for more.

First time eating here and the food is mouth-watering delicious! I would’ve licked the bowls and plate if I could, but not trying to get stares lol. The price for the portion and quality of the food is reasonable. Love the service and the staff were incredibly sweet. Really like the ambiance of the restaurant too. Will definitely come back; Esther’s got herself a repeat customer here 🙂

We were told that when we go to Houston we had to eat at this place. It had a great appearance on the outside and inside the young lady Kind of light skinned appeared youngish wore hair pulled to the back. Had a funky attitude. Everybody else was nice. Food was expensive but tasted good.

Eat here at your own risk of wasting money.. the girl that was making the order when I first approached had a nasty attitude, the oxtails was tough gravy bland…. And I had to chew on the oxtail meat to get it down…. Rice looked dry .. didn’t get it… mashed potatoes were nasty (my daughter had it on her plate)… Mac n cheese nasty.. green beans bland.. just my honest review.. but the atmosphere was nice and they had a DJ but food was too pricey to be nasty!

The food was good, but the service ok. The server making our plates wasn’t too pleasant and seemed irritated. The security guard, however, was amazing. He was very kind and helped bring our trays to the table and continuously checked on us to see if we needed anything. He’s a true gem Overall, I give this place a 8/10.

Why can yall never get the DoorDash orders right?????? EVERY time I order from here something is ALWAYS wrong. Like can somebody not read????? It’s more convenient for me to order due to me working from home and the restaurant is usually closed by the time I’m off. My order is hardly ever correct and it’s concerning. The stuff is decently priced and good but how do you expect to keep customers if you can’t put the correct items on the plate. Where on my receipt you see I ordered two sides of yams??? This happens. Every. Single. Order!!!!!

Esther’s is the place to be on a Friday evening for dinner. The food, service and atmosphere is top tier. This Black owned and operated business leaves a most return impression on you. The food is delicious as if it came from Granny’s Kitchen.
Nice end of the week spot!!!!
