The best fast food Mexican chain out there. They are not exaggerating about the “fresh” part of their name either! Their ingredients always taste fresh and delicious, and the food is made right in front of you. They also have the best breakfast burritos I’ve ever found.

I was passing through town planning to stop at Jersey Mike’s and saw this highly rated place so I figured it was worth a try. Somehow I got the idea that this would be something like Chipotle with more authentic flavor, I was dead wrong with that assumption. This food tasted even more Americanized than Chipotle/Qdoba.
I ordered an Al Pastor burrito, and right away I was skeptical seeing them grill the meat with the pork lacking that deep red color from the chili marinade. It wasn’t red at all. The meat tasted nothing like Al pastor that I’ve had at countless Mexican joints. Bland, boring, and not worth consuming the calories. I took a few bites and the rest went in the trash.
I was just in Los Angeles 2 weeks ago and had my fill of real Mexican food…. I should have known better. I’ll never trust Iowans with the food ratings ever again.

Estela’s continues to set the bar for fast-casual dining, both in quality and quantity! They are everything a burrito place should be. The ingredients are always fresh, and it’s hard to beat cooked to order steak that is seasoned as soon as it hits the grill. The staff is always friendly as well!

My new favorite place to get burritos! I get their grilled chicken burrito and this is going to sound silly, but true…it doesn’t make me burpy or regretful that I ate one like that other burrito place that starts with a “P” does. 🙂 The burritos are large and for me I only eat half and save the other half for later.
I must admit that while they do all speak English, there is sometimes a hard accent that I have difficulty catching everything, especially if it is busy or cooking noise going on. The way to work around that is downloading the app. I used that for the first time the other day and it was super simple. I could even add a note that I wanted it cut in half, which they did and wrapped each half separately. Plus you get rewards for ordering their food. I can’t wait for freebies!
I’ve only been to Coralville spot and it takes a little bit to get to it or from depending on which direction you are going to or from it due to it being off of Hwy 965 and having a median you can’t cross. But once you know how you are getting there, it isn’t an issue.

Estela’s is my absolute favorite place to visit when I go to Iowa City!! If I’m in the area, I have to stop by. The have the best burritos ever and I will support them as long as I can. All of their ingredients are extremely fresh and delicious, the tortillas are like no one else’s and the people are so kind. It is a great business with even better food!!! You can’t miss B.A.C. Fridays either!!!

Meal was good with great flavor. Staff were incredibly nice and patient for our first visit. I was a little bummed when eating to find the ground beef under cooked and of course did not realize until the meal was almost completely gone. I’ll give them another to shot.
