Estéban Restaurant is the heart of authentic Monterey dining, offering a unique culinary experience for Dinner, Breakfast, and Brunch on weekends. Our team brings knowledge of the culinary world serving modern Spanish cuisine highlighting local, seasonally sourced ingredients. Midweek specials feature $1 oysters on Sundays to $18 Burger, fries & Beer on Wednesday night. Open Breakfast from 7:00am – 10:00am Dinner starting at 4:30pm. Be sure to stop in for our NEW Tapas Happy Hour starting from 4:30 – 6pm daily. Several tapas and specialty cocktails served. Serving Brunch on Saturday and Sunday from 9:00am to 1:30pm.

this is my third time at Esteban’s and every time i enjoy a meal here the food is always consistently delicious. Rebecca has been my service twice now and always provides the best service. she’s so kind, and truly makes my dining experience even better! i love sitting outside under their covered patio (with heaters!). it’s also pet friendly too! i was so hungry, my stomach ate first — however, i ordered the breakfast burrito and it was FANTASTIC. it’s hearty, there are huge chunks of bacon in it, and the salsa that accompanies it has great flavor! the restaurant is located inside the cutest hotel, Casa Munras. they also offer tapas during dinner service, which is also absolutely delicious. it’s also so cute inside with the spanish style decor. parking is easy to find close by in the adjacent lot or on the street. already looking forward to my next meal here when i’m in town again! 10/10 for Esteban Restaurant!

We loved our experience at Esteban! Kid, dog, even cat friendly! They have a pet menu and our dog received a bowl with a burger patty, fried egg, and several strips of bacon. The outdoor patio is spacious with fire pits. For humans, we loved the guava mimosa, lavender honey chia pudding, eggs benedict, and casa omelette. We’ll be back!

The food was worth the mediocre service. My waitress would disappear for long periods of time on a not crowded Sunday night. She returned 3 times to tell me my sparking water was “coming” over 15 minutes. I asked about the specials on Sunday she said they had $1 oysters but were “out” at 7:05pm. I ordered the Prawns with Heads on them very good and the Octopus and a cheese pizza and all 3 were prepared and presented well. I felt like the server maybe had others tables away from mine but not sure.

Visited Esteban on Mother’s Day for Dinner.
Looked like they had a special brunch for Mother’s Day. It wasn’t busy for dinner.
Enjoyed everything. Would get a paella with seafood next time which would probably have more flavor. We really loved the Brussels and I ate all the crust from my son’s pizza. The bread was so good.
We found street parking easily on a Sunday night.

We came for Halloween and ate out on the patio with our dog. First thing she got was a bowl of water! Delicious meal, drinks and tapas. Appreciated the generosity of a blanket to put over my lap- awesome amenity! Lovely lighting and atmosphere and looked very nice inside as well.

Following the reviews of Top Rated restaurants in Monterey, we were eager to visit and sample some “standards” as well as unique dishes. The evening began with excellent service courtesy of our waiter, Salome. We are very appreciative of his attention to detail, having preemptively identified our needs to the effect of immediately addressing any of our requests.
The food was absolutely AMAZING. This is one of those establishments where you can venture outside your comfort zone with confidence! The accompanying sauces accentuated flavors rather than overpowering, including ones that my palate typically fears.
I was very pleased with my standard well cocktail (the flavors well balanced, and whatever well selection they use is perfect for a mixed drink. The specialty cocktail was very impressive; a subtle Mesquite addition to the Old Fashioned was a great choice!
All in all, I highly recommend this spot, and will definitely return. Tomorrow, in fact!

While we arrived for an early dinner with friends around 5:30 on a Sat night several months ago, the place was already getting busy. And by the time we left around 8:30, it was really the place to be it seemed.
We were 3 couples dining and started with drinks and several appetizers which were all very good. We then all split entries and were very pleasantly surprised when they were brought to the table already split! Who does that proactively? Such a great service addition. All of the food was very good – pic of *half* of the chicken dinner.

I really hate to write this review – Esteban has been a staple in my relationship with my fiance. We went here on one of our first dates, have brought countless friends and family here, and even attended one of their whiskey events. The food was reliable, service impeccable, and it was an easy go-to recommendation.
Something has changed in the last couple weeks. We noticed that they updated the burger for their Wednesday night special and were excited to try it. Our experience from start to finish was just…not the quality we have come to expect from Esteban. We arrived as they were opening and were seated right away. Our table was sticky. We weren’t offered water. Our appetizer – the calamari – fell apart and the sauce was different with an unpleasant aftertaste. The burgers themselves were quite possibly the worst restaurant burger I’ve ever had. We asked for medium rare and medium, and all were well done. The buns were stale, toppings flavorless, and the fries seemed like reheated frozen french fries from the grocery store. Everything was under-seasoned. It felt like the kitchen was cutting corners, and our waitress checked in on us at least 7 times in the 45 minutes we were there. We honestly should have complained, but we’re not the sort of people to send food back. For $80+, we could have gotten a much better burger almost anywhere else in Monterey.
We were contemplating bringing our wedding guests here after our ceremony, but this experience was so disappointing that I honestly don’t think we’ll be back again.
Updating my review: while I appreciate the response from Esteban, my partner and I tried to contact them 4 different times, left our numbers, and never heard back. Really just reflects what I suspected – not worth our money anymore.

Thank you to Esteban’s for having a fun empanada Mondays for five dollars where you can try more than one type, which is what I did. You could either have indoor or patio seating. My preference was for the original empanada.

I don’t usually write reviews, but I was very disappointed with our Valentine’s Day dinner. We went for the three-course meal. The appetizer and dessert were okay, but the steak was extremely disappointing. I’ve never had Wagyu steak before, but I expected it to better then other steaks. Unfortunately, the steaks were not tender at all and very lack of seasoning. It was burnt on both steaks, which we didn’t even finish. I can’t speak on the other menu items, but based on our experience with the steak, I wouldn’t recommend ordering it and would suggest considering other restaurants for a steak.
