At Esmée Restaurant, we pride ourselves on offering a cozy and lively atmosphere with a touch of refinement and discretion. While we do admit to being a little loud, we believe that the ambiance in which you dine is just as crucial as the food itself. If you’re seeking a quiet and private spot for dining on Thursdays, Fridays, or Saturdays, our restaurant may not be the ideal fit for you. Our service style is both professional and informal, with our front-of-house staff undergoing extensive and continuous training. Our interior design evokes a sense of warm, understated luxury, with lush greenery, thick curtains, and rich marble surfaces, reminiscent of a modern orangery.

Atmosphere was really cozy and classy, love the candle details. The view of the Hotel was beautiful as well. Food was innovative and interesting! There was an open kitchen which was nice to see. Toffee cake and ice cream was really nice. Staff were attentive. Recommend for good dinner spot in town 🙂

very pricey but over all pretty good. We only disliked one dish which was their spicy fried chicken. Edible but nothing special. The service was excellent and space was nice. The star of the meal was their basque cheesecake at the end.

Our experience was a bit of a miss, which was a shame considering how beautiful and recommended this restaurant was. We arrived around 18.15 and were disappointed by the lack of vegetarian options, the only one being very expensive truffle gnocchi. We wouldn’t have minded paying a lot if the portion would have filled us up properly. Paying around 44 swiss francs only to not be full is a real shame. The food was very quick, to the point where we were done and felt awkward staying longer without consuming anything more, which was a shame as the interior was so pretty. I would not come back, as I just can’t get over the fact that the portion included 13 gnocchis and I paid an arm and a leg for it. The service was very friendly.

Esmée is a lively upscale spot overlooking Kongens Nytorv square. If you’re lucky, you can get a spot at the outdoor terrace – it is a great place to enjoy a beverage while the sun warms you up in the evening. The bar area serves only snacks (and it is worth visiting just for those flavour packed bites), but make sure you reserve well ahead for the bustling dining room that overlooks the open kitchen.

Besides the snacks that are great to share, the menu features a number of sharing dishes (turbot, steak etc) so that everyone can enjoy a bit of everything.

Fantastic spot in Copenhagen. We skipped entrées and just had a table full of appetizers and each one was out of this world. Drinks are super creative, the whole experience was amazing and the location is perfect.

Absolutely amazing location, food and venue. The front of house staff are really great – we had accidentally booked for the wrong day and she immediately accommodated our change and sat us.

Our server Iris was the best server I have had in a very long time and made both great suggestions for food, was attentive and made us feel extremely welcome.

For food, we did a selection of dishes, all of which were fresh and tasty. Will be back!

We had a lovely start to our evening at this restaurant. While waiting for our table, the lady at the bar was incredibly kind and prepared our cocktails exactly the way we wanted. It set a very pleasant tone for the rest of the night. The host who greeted us kindly offered to take our bags, which was a nice touch.

Once our table was ready, we were seated, and the food did not disappoint. The dishes were truly delicious. The brioche lobster roll was so good, we ended up ordering it multiple times. The green salad was incredibly fresh and crispy, and the scallop was nicely cooked, although the portion was very small—more like a tasting bite. The grilled sea bass had a fantastic sauce, though only half a fish was served, which felt a bit sparse. The French fries were also excellent, but we were surprised that no condiments were provided. The warm cherry pie was outstanding—flaky, flavorful, and melted in the mouth.

The ambiance and flavors absolutely live up to the restaurant’s reputation and pricing—however, what didn’t meet expectations was the service at the table. Unfortunately, our server was very unwelcoming throughout the night. He never smiled, barely acknowledged us, and avoided eye contact. At one point, he abruptly tossed a bucket of ice into the street, which even disrupted traffic. We genuinely couldn’t understand the attitude. We also had to make repeated efforts just to get attention, and in the end, we didn’t even try calling him for the check—we got up and paid ourselves.

All in all, a place worth visiting for the food and atmosphere, but we hope the service improves to match the overall experience.

I think the four star rating for Esmèe is quite fair.

If we start with the atmosphere, the place is absolutely stunning. Probably the prettiest restaurant I’ve ever been at. It’s so beautiful inside and the attention to detail is crazy. Lighting, ambience and just overall layout, they’ve really nailed the atmosphere. The location is of course also super nice, right on Kongens Nytorv so of course a very expensive and extravagant address and it fits the interior for sure.

Service is absolutely incredible. The staff are nice, they’re attentive and they make you feel very welcome. Not only that they’re professional and also accommodating for wishes and wants throughout the meal. No comments on either atmosphere or service, top class.

The food however is what brings my rating a bit down. It’s obviously super expensive, and that’s okay, you pay for location and extravagance, but then the quality should also be up to par. We started with the oysters which were delicious, not a lot to comment on there because the preparation is quite simple. Then we had a bunch of starters for the table.

The truffle rösti was quite good, but nothing too overwhelming which was actually surprising considering the shaved black truffle on top. Then we also had the fried chicken, once again super delicious – but that goes for all fried chicken to be honest. I missed a bit of spice on those. They had some spice mix on top, almost like Nashville hot chicken but they should’ve coated it more because that was kinda the highlight for me. And then some olives.

For the main course I had the grilled turbot. We waited quite a long time for that, around 40 minutes from our starters to the main course. Fish was cooked perfectly, but to me the star of that dish was the seasonal greens in the sauce. Everything was just super nice and fresh. The main course was a 10/10 for me.

It’s a French restaurant, and honestly the menu selection for me was a bit flat. It didn’t feel like a French restaurant when considering the menu. Heavily dominated by fish, and lacked any other interesting French classics on the card. They say online they’re inspired by the Mediterranean area, while that’s true I think they’re probably a bit too inspired considering that it is supposed to be French.

I end at four because of the price to quality ratio, especially considering the rather standard entrees, and menu selection as well. For that price, I expect a bit more to be honest.

Went to Esmees after a spa treatment at Amazing Spaces. The garlic bread was good, but over cooked. The ribeye had gristle and was hard to cut (the poor steak knife may have been part of the problem) – it was odd that the steak was curled up and not flat. I eat a lot of steak in the US, and I had not seen that before. The green beans were good- but very garlicky. My fries were good- nice and crispy. My friend got the turbo, which she loved. We split the ‘apple pie’. The whip cream on top was hand made, which I like, but it was also not sweet- which I did not enjoy. I felt like I had too much of that instead of the sweet ice cream. The service is good and spot is an elevated vibe with a great view.

I stumbled upon Esmée by sheer chance while exploring the charming streets of Copenhagen, and it turned out to be a serendipitous discovery that left a lasting impression. The allure of the restaurant drew me in, and from the moment I walked through the doors, I knew I was in for something special.

Every single bite at Esmée was an exquisite experience, leaving me craving more with each dish. The menu is a testament to culinary artistry, and I found myself returning for a second visit during my stay—an endorsement that speaks volumes.

Some of my favorites included the oysters, which were impeccably fresh and brimming with flavor. The heirloom tomato salad was a vibrant medley of textures and tastes, a true celebration of the finest produce. The Esmée green salad was equally delightful, each ingredient harmoniously balanced. The pasta with prawns was a standout, perfectly cooked and richly flavored, showcasing the skill of the kitchen.

And let’s not forget the strawberry soft ice—a unique and comforting dessert that provided a sweet finale to an exceptional meal. Its delightful twist on a classic treat was both nostalgic and innovative.

A special mention must go to Sebastian and the rest of the staff, whose exceptional service elevated the entire dining experience. Their attentiveness, knowledge, and genuine warmth set the bar high for what a true culinary experience should be.

Esmée is not just a restaurant; it’s a destination that promises and delivers an unforgettable gastronomic journey. If you find yourself in Copenhagen, a visit to Esmée is an absolute must.
