There’s always a line, but that alone tells you you’re in for a treat. If you’re patient, it’s worth the wait. We stopped in for breakfast, and as always, it did not disappoint. Pancakes for my 10-year-old, a Philly Steak omelette for me, and Bennie’s Avocado for my husband. Generous portions, very reasonable prices, and service that feels like home.
The lady who runs it (so sorry I didn’t catch her name) is incredible! She does it all! Hostess, waitress, manager, she works the room effortlessly. My husband was in awe just watching her work her magic. Truly a gem of a place that keeps us coming back.

Ernie’s is one of those no-frills breakfast joints that’s clearly earned its place in the hearts of both locals and early-rising visitors. It’s not trying to be trendy, it’s not overthinking things — and that’s exactly what makes it work.
You walk in and you know right away: this is a spot that’s been around long enough to know breakfast. Friendly staff, a cozy diner-style setup, and food that shows up hot and just the way you ordered it. By the time we were heading out, there was a solid crowd waiting for tables — always a good sign when the locals are willing to wait.
I got exactly what I was in the mood for — nothing fancy, just satisfying, well-cooked breakfast classics. The kind of place where eggs are eggs, coffee is coffee, and everything feels just a little better because you’re on Block Island.
If you’re looking for modern twists and avocado toast with edible flowers, this isn’t it. But if you want a solid, satisfying breakfast in a place that feels like part of the island’s rhythm — Ernie’s is the spot.

Perfect spot if you’re looking for traditional diner fare on Block Island.. I took the family here yesterday morning for a quick breakfast before exploring the island.. We got a table on the back deck, overlooking the harbor where the kids could watch people arriving by ferry from Connecticut.. The service was great, the staff and customers polite, and the food hit our table 10 minutes after we ordered!! It’s definitely in the “greasy spoon” category, but if you know what to expect you won’t be disappointed.. Not super healthy, but the turkey bacon was a nice touch.. The kids swear they make “the best” blueberry pancakes, and I’ve got to say I wasn’t disappointed.. The only complaint I would offer is that the coffee was pretty bad.. Could’ve just been the bottom of the pot, but if I want a quality cup of coffee there’s always the coffee shop down the road.. All in all, Ernie’s was a great breakfast experience for the whole fam..

Typical greasy spoon which was what I was expecting. Scrambled eggs were fluffy and good, but the sausage and potatoes were burned. Came early and was seated quickly, server was attentive. Coffee was not undrinkable but not great. Good location, indoor and outdoor seating options, outdoor seating is on a covered balcony which is nice. Would probably come again but only after trying a few other places to see how it compared.

I went here twice during my trip! The food is good, it’s reasonable prices but the wait was a bit long. I can definitely tell this is a community diner that the locals love. The reason why I am giving it 4 stars is because the diner wasn’t all that clean. Especially with COVID-19 still being prevalent, I would expect restaurants to take cleaning more seriously.

When I give stars, especially five stars, they are not all equal…. Rather they are rating my experience in the type of restaurant I’m eating in….This place is served by a short order cooks who artfully prepare a breakfast with perfection. In terms of breakfast joints, old school breakfast places…. Perfection.
