This is a great little place located right on the market. They even have outdoor seating for dining. The service is always fantastic. The only thing better is the food. The sausage gravy is everything you want your sausage gravy to be. The biscuits are from scratch. I could go on and on. Definitely a step above most other places in and around the market.

It was about 11 or 1130 and we were able to sit immediately. Service was prompt, efficient and nice. She had patience with me changing my drink and food order. Fresh sausage gravy was awesome!! My husband really enjoyed the cooked apples. They were most definitely not canned. This was a really good experience.

This place was an oddity. The reviews seemed biased because it wasn’t that great. The price was in fact top tier, that’s about it. The best part of my breakfast was the rye toast and being able to look around at the history on the walls. As far as food.. there’s a lot to be desired. My eggs were scrambled and wet which was really weird. My bacon was flash fried so a bit wobbly. The potato pancake was an odd texture but still had flavor and my significant other mentioned his home fries were oily but his eggs were cooked well. Would I come back based on this experience? No. But if it’s your first time..for the price, try your luck.

Great dinner atmosphere with flair. Not the Office Space kind… A better word is character. The staff lives it in the best way. They’re nice, real, hard-working, and sometimes the cook brings your food. Sometimes a different waiter/waitress fills your coffee. You’re in fast-meal, feel-good, historic diner heaven.

I have never had a bad experience eating here. The staff are always so friendly, the atmosphere inside the restraunt is great, but I always love eating outside on nice sunny days and the food is delicious! I have had their BBQ sandwich and the ranch special sandwich and both were amazing! I cannot recommend this place enough! If you’re ever finding yourself in Downtown Roanoke, this is a phenomenal place to eat.

Lived in Roanoke my whole life and never tried this out. Food was great and the service was very respectful and kind. Loved the quirky menu. Refills came when needed and food was delivered to table fast. I commend the waitress on not rushing us to eat because we stopped in close to closing time (on accident). Also, loved that I saw all of the employees helping to clean up and close down. It’s great when coworkers and managers can work together. Will eat there again.

Found Ernie’s while we were exploring the City Market area. Prices were unbeatable! The Cooks Special (a Club Sandwich on a Kaiser roll) and the Downtown Burger were both exceptional! All Staff members were very friendly and accommodating. If visiting from out of town this is a must for lite fare and great value.
