What’s not to love? Great food, great portions, and very friendly.
Spanish, Mexican, Italian, or American cuisine means when no one knows where to go or what they want, we can go to Ernestos. It’s a huge selection of food whether it’s breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
They also have a specials board just inside the door with features so changing it up even a little is a nice option.
One little cooler in the dining room has glass bottles of soda and water imported from Mexico. The other cooler has desserts, some imported some made in house.
I usually get the Mexican menu options and have never been disappointed. A burrito with rice and beans and a bottle of tamirind soda is a great end to a long day or a nice pick-me-up for lunch.
Ernesto is a great guy running a great place.

ABSOLUTE TRASH! I ordered chicken quesidillas and a chicken breast and my total came to almost $35! This is NOT worth that AT ALL! I tasted the quesidillas and it was actually pulled pork! (Which i don’t eat) and it’s limp and disgusting. And what kind of chicken breast is that? And I didn’t ask for a sandwich. I called the restaurant and requested a refund and the owner’s exact words were” The grill closed and nothing he could do!” I said then why would you give me this food if the grill closed knowing it wasn’t right? I asked for my $ back and he said “Yeah right! If you come to get money then I will call a lawyer!” INSANE! I was super polite and respectful. Take my advice, DO NOT EAT HERE! TERRIBLE BEYOND WORDS!

I can’t comment on the food as I have never had authentic Mexican, my partner has and said he’s had better. It was decent in my opinion. I felt it was sort of odd to be in there at lunch time on a Saturday and for it to be fairly empty. The server was nice!

While coming through Owego we decided to stop at Ernesto’s for a bite to eat. We had never visited before. After waiting at the counter for 5+ minutes for someone to seat us we finally got a table. (That should have been a sign) We both ordered Fajitas. My guest has the crab, scallop, and shrimp fajitas and I the steak, chorizo, and chicken. The skillets came sizzling hot! The plates piled with onions and peppers but the proteins were lacking. My guests plate had 1 small scallop cut in half along with imitation crab meat and a few shrimp. My plate had a few small strips of steak, a few nuggets of chicken, and chorizo crumbles. Don’t get me wrong the food was hot and fresh…..but lacking meat for the price and pretty bland for our liking. We received 2 flour tortillas each. We asked for no beans and extra rice and we were surprised to be charged $1.99 extra per person. Final thoughts…. Overpriced for what we got and bland. Won’t visit again.

We liked this place so much that we came twice for breakfast while in the area!! Ernesto was very kind and accommodating. I am from Costa Rica so many of the options were like comfort food for me. There are plenty of vegetarian options.

Today, I was really craving an Omelette and had called all around town (in Sayre) to find a place but wasn’t satisfied. I remember a friend of mine telling me about Ernesto’s restaurant and looked to see if they served breakfast, and to my surprise THEY DID! I really wanted a steak and veggie omelette and Mr. Ernesto did not disappoint! He came over with a cheerful demeanor, asked me what I wanted and made the magic happen! I enjoyed the environment as well! When I went it was only me, but I enjoyed the music and conversation with Mr. Ernesto! The food was hot, fresh, and the SALSA was AMAZING! I will def be back and recommend anyone looking for some good homemade Mexican food to come here! Also, the Horchata (my absolute favorite drink) was PERFECT! I will be back! Thank you for the amazing service, and right at home kind of feel.

Incredible authentic food! I ordered the fish tacos, which absolutely slapped! They were able to give me corn tortillas over flour. My boyfriend got the chicken burrito and loved the flavors! Filling portions. Definitely would recommend eating here. Staff were super friendly.
