Moving onto the overall atmosphere, I am not a fan of the wide mirror in front of the seating area. I do love the outside seating; it feels like a Japanese garden.
The service was a disaster from the start. Our server seemed indifferent, taking ages to take our order and barely responding to questions about the menu. Drinks arrived lukewarm, and one was forgotten entirely until we complained. The food was the real disappointment. I ordered the Southern BBQ Pulled Pork Banh-Mi ($4.75), expecting flavor, but the pork was dry and tasteless, with a stale bun that crumbled apart. My friend’s Asian-Style BBQ Beef ($4.75) was equally bad—tough, overcooked steak with a sauce that tasted like soy gone wrong. The Roasted Chicken ($4.25) was no better, with rubbery texture and no seasoning. Even the Skillet Cornbread ($1.75) was a flop—dense and undercooked, barely saved by the measly $0.50 honey butter.
The atmosphere was dreary, with dim lighting and sticky tables that suggested poor cleaning. The noise level was unbearable, making it impossible to enjoy the meal. For the price—over $15 for two basic sandwiches and sides—it was an outrageous rip-off given the quality.
Epicurious Garden failed on every level. The food was inedible, the service rude, and the ambiance off-putting. I won’t be back, and I’d advise others to avoid this overrated spot.
The sinks in both downstairs bathrooms don’t work (with signs telling customers not to tamper with the plumbing, so clearly not a problem only since today). This makes me wonder where the staff wash their hands – it’s definitely not in the bathrooms.
