I paid $27.96 for this food and am very disappointed!!
Just because a place looks nice doesn’t mean the food is good.
I got grilled chicken and it was packaged like this and has no flavor at all.
Wasted my money. First and very last time I will come here.
I love authentic cuisine and this is absolutely not it. This shouldn’t be sold to anyone.
The coconut lemonade was refreshing. The coconut rice was also a hit. The lime cake was spongy, a good mix of tart and sweet. Nothing on this menu is a bad choice.
The ambiance is relaxed with wonderful music playing. They have a Dj booth in the corner so l assume they have a party vibe some times.
They have a full bar with lots of great cocktails to try or the ‘bebidas’ which are authentic juices like soursop (guanabana) with or without milk/leche (which is really Carnation milk). Get the guanabana with water, not milk. It’s rich enough without the extra calories.
Combined with an informal atmosphere that plays Latin music from all over, anyone who’s been to San Juan PR, Santo Domingo DR or Medellin will be comfortable ordering and enjoying everything Encanto has to offer. 100%.
Some notes…
1) There is an 18% tip added automatically.
2) They charge extra (about $5 for my check, +100$) to use a credit card.
3) This isn’t fast food. Food is prepared fresh, so service is measured (but not slow either) so relax accordingly.
4) Menu is on tablets, and you can read in English or Spanish. Ask for help.
5) Pricing is commensurate with other full service restaurants in the area. Apps can be $10+, entrees $20+ and then add in drinks accordingly.
We ordered Bandeja Paisa for both of us, 2 drinks and 10 mini empanadas for an app. The food came out at a reasonable pace and the drinks were 10/10.
-I never like the plantains at any of the Columbian places we’ve tried, and don’t really care for them in general, but these were actually really good with the right amount of sweetness.
-The rice was cooked well, the carne was cooked perfect but no flavor. The beans were bland and The chicharrons were cooked well but also bland.
My issue isn’t even with the food, it is with the bill. We weren’t told, nor was it readily apparent, but there is auto gratuity. Its not on the door or signage, I didn’t see it on the tablets they give you (for the menu) and the waiter did not inform us of this.
We had a good time at this place, but the waiter wasn’t attentive, the place was dead and we paid almost 30 dollars a plate plus 12 instead of the 10 advertised for the mini empanadas and I’m almost positive there was a $6 upcharge for milk in my mango drink.
Another $14 to be charged by default plus a credit card service fee of $4 and to then ask for a tip is absolutely insane. If it were up to me I would have left nothing but my wife left $5 on top of it.
Automatically charging for gratuity (which to be clear isn’t necessarily a tip, but a general service charge usually reserved for large parties of people or events) is iffy but at least make it known.
We will NEVER be back, and the prices don’t reflect the quality of the food.
The service was extremely slow, despite the restaurant having only one occupied table when we arrived. It took more than 15 minutes for someone to attend to us. Additionally, the tip is automatically included in the bill.
On a positive note, the atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, with Colombian decor and music that enhance the dining experience.
We each had a drink – I had a delicious mango margarita and she had a dirty martini.
We split the Maduro con queso (plantains with cheese). The plantains were perfectly fried and the cheese was just enough. It was the perfect blend of sweet and salty. For dinner I had the chicken with hawaiian sauce. The chicken was tender, the sauce was flavorful – not to heavy, but not too thin – just right. I selected the coconut rice and salad as my side dishes. The coconut rice was amazing – it paired perfectly with the hawaiian sauce. The salad was fresh and delicious (spring mix, cucumbers, tomatoes, and mango). The blend of the salad was perfection. My friend had the chicken with mushrooms and she said it was great. The portions are generous. The ambiance is uplifting. The staff was friendly and attentive. I will definitely recommend Encanto to my clients. I can’t wait to come back!!
