I had an amazing evening with my friends, and all of us enjoyed the food. Absolutely amazing food and lovely service. The staff were extremely helpful and attentive. The place is very cozy, and the atmosphere is really good. It’s a bit expensive, but for the quality of food, it’s definitely worth it.
This is one of the best restaurants around Albany Road. I would recommend booking early. Highly recommend this place. Would visit again!

Worst experience I’ve had at a restaurant. I don’t use this sentence lightly.
Booked a table for 9pm on NYE, and was made to sit at a waiting area until 9.50pm until we actually got our table. We were a second away from just walking out, which in hindsight we should have just done. Turns out many oher tables were having the same problem.
Atmosphere was incredibly negative, as I heard tables had waited 2 and a half hours for their food. I thought that wouldn’t happen to us though since tables were leaving… nope, we waited 1 hour for our STARTERS to come. And goodness me, the vibes in the entire restaurant was so negative. Every table I saw seemed to be having a similar experience, and voiced their complaints.
By that time it was 11.10pm, and we were genuinely worried we would miss the bells at 12. We asked for our mains as soon as our starters came, and at 11.30 it did.
Now, I wish I could say the food was worth the wait. Well, it wasn’t. I ordered a tikka lamb bhuna for mains and it was lukewarm and tough. My wives lamb starter was seriously tough also. So we made the decision to get all our food bagged up, pay the bill and get home before midnight.
The staff were apologetic, but they need to decrease their bookings for big occasions. Seemed like the manager just wanted all the people in the door with broken promises. (“Table ready in 5 mins!” “Food just coming!” etc.) I honestly would rather have just been told that it was too busy and they had to cancel our booking.
Here’s the final kicker: when we got home, I opened our boxed up food and one of our whole parathas wasn’t there. And they aren’t cheap btw.

Booked a table for 6 @ 7.30 and our table was ready. Drinks, Starters & Main Courses All turned up on time and were delicious. I’d particularly recommend the Lamb Bhuna which came with a particularly well marinated lamb shank. The staff were extremely helpful & attentive and the manager was friendly and knowledgeable. There’s a reason The Empire is still popular after 30 years. Lots of fun and Highly recommended.

Having a meal out is a rarity and luxury and our experience here was a let down. We arrived and had to wait for our booked table, the restaurant accepted a table of about 35 people and the noise level was atrocious to the point where we had to hurry our food and leave. We get takeaways from here and Empire has the title of the best Indian in Cardiff but the food was bland. I don’t know how curry can be bland? Portions were small and even though our server was trying his best, we had issues with a woman server with an awful attitude.

Christmas eve visit, very busy every table full. Had to wait for our table even though we booked. Drinks order taken waited 10mins. Poppadoms and chutneys came at same time. Waited
1 hour for our starters. Another 1 hour for our mains. Food when arrived was tasty .
Booked table 6.30 left at 9,45pm.
Don’t book this curry house on special dates.
Over booked could not cope with demand.

You can tell why they have won the Indian restaurant of the year 2025. We went on a Monday evening so it was quiet. The staff were very knowlegable on the food giving great advice on heat levels helping selctions. The food was excellent and service fabulous. If I lived in Cardiff this would be a my choice

The staff members were attentive, friendly, and went above and beyond to ensure our comfort. Their knowledge of the menu and willingness to accommodate our needs was truly impressive. Possibly the worst service I’ve had anywhere, some staff didn’t seem to have a clue. Ordered poppadoms that never arrived, still on the bill at the end tho, food was nice enough but nothing special. Manager spent a bit of time shouting at the waiters,not sure how they won best Indian in Cardiff recently but it’s at best average.
