OMG. Now I get the Empire hype. Empire is known as one of the best spots in Portland for Chinese food, and now I understand why. We finally visited during the winter and were reminded why I usually avoid going in the summer. It was packed on a Wednesday, and they sadly do not take reservations.

Everything we had was phenomenal. The menu is extensive, split between shareable small plates and larger plates. We went the family style route with small plates so we could try more, and I am so glad we did because everything was so freaking good.

We ordered the Chinatown roast pork, small garlic green beans, Peking duck buns, spicy pork belly buns, Shanghai soup dumplings, and the garlic meatball. I still cannot pick a favorite, but I have to say their pork dishes are some of the best I have had.

We also loved the ambiance. It felt cozy and tucked in, and the space is much more spacious inside than I expected.

Service was absolutely fantastic. We cannot wait to go back.

Loved it here! I’ve tried to eat here multiple times, but the wait was so long each time. Finally got in today and it didn’t disappoint! Our food was amazing! By far the best green beans over ever had in my life! Delicious!
My only comment is that it waitress left during our service, which we didn’t know, and no one really came to our table, we had to find people to help us when we needed it. So a few people helped us when we tracked them down. Just a lack of communication with us. They were busy for sure. Service could have definitely been better, but I’m sure this was an outlier experience.
I would definitely come back to try again!

Very nice experience here. Good service. Great food. Ordered the Chinese sliced pork and rice. Excellent but it is much sweeter than savory. The shitake mushroom chive dumplings were out of this world. I also had the soup dumplings which were disappointing in the volume of soup in the dumpling. Three of them barely had soup in them. I also recommend the bacon fried rice. Ask for it with pineapple. Definitely a place we’ll visit again.

Delicious Cantonese Resto in Portland, I will recommend you to order the garlic green beans. Really love the burnt part of the vegetable and the smoky. I also ordered the duck lo mien, but make sure you ask the chili oil since it gives additional flavor to your dish. The shu mai is also recommended if you visit this resto. There are plenty tables, so you don’t need to worry to be seated. If you want to hang out with friends, you can also go to the bar. Additionally, there is also a clean restroom. The waiters and waitresses are friendly and fast.

I never write reviews for restaurants but this one deserved it. We first were a little skeptical to eat here because it was so busy, we ordered chicken teriyaki, chicken skewers, and dumplings. The food came out super quick, the fastest i’ve ever seen. I mean less than 5 minutes. We were also very impressed of the food quality and flavor. I never liked white rice but with the teriyaki chicken it was delicious, the skewers are also so good and worth it, super tender, most chinese places the skewers are hard to chew. This is definitely the best authentic chinese restaurant I’ve been to, and I’ve had a lot! Also the best atmosphere, and a cute little place to eat.

One of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. Everything was so flavorful! We tried the broccoli noodles, bao buns, eggplant, and the honey glazed shrimp. Everything was out of this world.

Empire Chinese Kitchen on Congress Street is always bustling, and for good reason. They don’t take reservations, so be prepared to put your name down and wait anywhere from 30 minutes to over an hour, definitely plan ahead if you’re hungry. The food is absolutely delicious, and the steamed pork dumplings are a must try. The atmosphere can get a bit loud, but it’s cozy and charming inside, which makes the wait worthwhile. The service is pretty good too, especially considering how busy they are. I’d definitely come back for another tasty meal!

I was looking for an authentic Chinese meal and after reading all the great reviews decided to stop in.

Food seemed to come very very fast, not sure if it was prepared beforehand, but the dishes were warm. Mongolian beef, dumplings, and duck fried rice were good, but nothing over the top. I will say my wife did enjoy the pork belly buns.

All in all – more of a younger trendy Chinese place that has good service and food, just wasn’t for me when I was looking for someone more authentic.

Food was great for dim sum like fare especially taking into consideration that my wife has an allergy to gluten.
The broccoli with broad noodles were just okay as it lacked flavor.
I grew up eating dim sum frequently and will say that this place is a bit pricey compared to conventional dim sum in places like NYC China Town.
Very accommodating and friendly staff.
We had to wait about 40 minutes for a table on a Wednesday night around 6 pm which doesn’t seem to be unreasonable for Downtown Portland.

Shanghai soup dumplings are really good. Never had soup dumplings before. Duck chow mein is also good. Spring rolls are not just tasty but also smell so good. Definitely recommend. It can be busy at the lunch time. We sat at the bar. The staff are also friendly and nice.
