Known worldwide as the epicenter of theatre, Manhattan’s Theatre District, and neighboring Hell’s Kitchen, is the setting for Emmy Squared Pizza’s newest location in NYC. Founded on an unconditional love of well-made food and praised by reviewers as “must try” and “a welcome addition” to Manhattan’s vast pizza scene, Emmy Squared Pizza combined a New York style “grandma” pie with a Detroit style pizza, and then topped it off with an added dose of culinary creativity. But we didn’t stop at our one-of-a-kind pizza, Emmy’s Le Big Matt Burger has been recognized as one of ‘The Best New Burgers in NYC’ (Gothamist) and one of the ’20 Best Burgers’ in NYC‘ (Infatuation).

We love making pizza at home and tend to be a little picky about it, so we were excited to try New York pizza again! We were pleasantly surprised to find out we were actually getting Brooklyn’s take on Detroit-style pizza. Reading the story behind the restaurant and learning how much intention Matt and Emily put into creating their version of Detroit-style pies made the experience even better.
The pizza was fantastic. The crust had that perfect Detroit-style texture with a great bite and flavor, and the overall balance of the pie was excellent.
What really surprised us was the Caesar salad. Something as simple as a Caesar can easily be average, but they elevated it with a really unique crouton seasoning that seemed almost like a crouton dust, giving every bite that classic crouton flavor.
We’ve eaten a lot of great pizza — from Chicago deep dish like Lou Malnati’s and Giordano’s to favorites back home like The Gypsy Poet, Pink’s Pizza, Pizzana, and Gold Tooth Tony’s — and Emmy Squared absolutely holds its own among great pizza spots.
We’ll definitely be back the next time we’re in New York.
The wings are supposed to be “jumbo”, but they were regular sized. They made up for it by placing a few extra wings in the pack – and they were delish!
