Our family made a short trip to Madras on Sunday to check out Emma’s Cafe. We didn’t know what to expect, but we LOVE Mexican food, so we wanted to give it a shot! It’s a local, family owned business and the staff is incredibly sweet and polite! We had a large group of 11 people and most of us tried different items on the menu, so we could get a broader understanding of the delicious food they provide! Our group had beef enchiladas, chile relleno, quesabirria tacos, Birria grilled cheese and countless mixed drinks from the bar! But the real highlight for us was the Birria egg roll appetizer! What a delicious fusion of presentation styles!!! Everything was plated beautifully and was FULL of flavor! Their prices are very affordable, especially considering the volume of food on each plate. We’ll definitely make the short drive again to come to Emma’s Cafe, so we can continue to enjoy what I think is the best affordable Mexican food in Central Oregon!!!

WOW! The bean dip and salsa to start are so good, probably one of best salsas I’ve had. Our margaritas were on point we had the hibiscus and tamarindo margaritas. Seriously the starter birria egg rolls were the star of the show … so good. Mar y tierra burrito was on point. Everything was so good we ordered the chilaquiles just to try out, delicious

Omg this place was amazing!! I ordered the Alambre and I’ve never had fajitas quite like this. The bacon, pineapple, and cheese were a perfect combination! The service was spot on and drinks were wonderful too!! Highly recommended!

Went there for the first time tonight with a friend. I ordered the carne asada thinking I would eat half and take the rest for lunch tomorrow. Oh no. Not what happened. The plate was massive, with a slab of super tender beef the size of both my hands put together. Rice and bean portions were similar in size. Grilled cactus and roasted jalapeno made for tasty garnish. I started with the rice and beans, thinking they’d be the same bland meh as other places. Instead, I found myself just wanting to eat that and nothing else. The beans had a light creamy texture and just a subtle touch of sweetness. The rice had a rich almost buttery taste. I liked them so much I got a to go order of both to take home. The steak was tender and flavorful, and married perfectly with the cactus and jalapeno in the tortillas. Before I realized it, I had plowed through all the rice and beans and 2/3 of the steak. Good stuff.

Another unexpected star of the evening was the piña agua fresca. Imagine lemonade but made with pineapples instead of lemons. It tastes amazing – gonna need to find a recipe for that.

My friend got the birria ramen with cheese, onions, and cilantro on top. Again the portion size was well more than she could eat. The smell of it was decadent, so it’s definitely a future dish to try.

The server was very friendly and very patient while my friend struggled to decide what to eat. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time and was piping hot.

Deifinitely will be back anytime I pass through Madras!

We happened to stay overnight in Madras and decided to go to Emma’s, just because. Glad we did. I’m 70 and I had the best tacos I’ve ever eaten in my life, and I’ve eaten a lot of tacos. The Quesabiarra tacos were marinated beef and cheese in corn tortillas that are then fried. I was pissing off my friend because I was making yummy noises the entire time I was eating them. Additionally, the place is clean, new and the staff were upbeat the minute we walked in. Highly recommended if you’re hungry anywhere near Madras.

This place has wonderful food and drinks. I highly recommend the Bloody Mary, one of the better ones I’ve tasted in central Oregon. The service has always been very good, always courteous and attentive. Really surprised it’s not busy all the time given the quality of food and service.
