I wasnt sure what to expect when my friend suggested this place but I was thoroughly and pleasantly surprised.
The “Detroit style” pizza really reminds me more of focaccia bread. It is SO fluffy and delightful.
Unpopular opinion here but I typically don’t consider pizza to be a “meal.” It’s something you eat when you don’t have it in you to cook, and even if you get it in Chicago it’s like…a last ditch effort at feeding yourself.
BUT this feels like a meal. Like a treat. Like a schmancy lil indulgence you deserve.
My friend is gluten free and I never in a million years would guess this is gluten free. I almost hope they didn’t mistakenly put it on regular dough, for my friends sake. But if this is legitimately gluten free, I would gladly get it again even if I wasn’t with a gluten intolerant friend.
The artichoke pieces are massive, tender and tangy. The sausage is a bit strange, ground sausage instead of little lumps. And the mushrooms really top the “artesenal” feel.
There’s a cute little market with interesting delicacies and they have an incredibly diverse assortment of non-alcoholic beverages. The clerk did an amazing job of describing many of the options, took a lot of time making sure we knew what we were looking at. Definitely a connoisseur. Fabulous.
A little pricey but, again, this is an indulgence. A meal. A quaint opportunity to relax and engulf yourself in fluffy, delectable fare that feels authentic and real. Not just ingredients tossed on a piece of dough for convenience sake.
I look for to my next visit here!
The pizza was pretty good super thin and crispy like a Roman pizza but with way too much sauce on it and all the way to the edge. I bit the pizza and it squirted out from below the cheese. Some people like it that way, just not my personal preference and not like they do it in Rome. But it’s a cool pizza to try. Definitely unique.
I will go back for their other pizza a taglio roman Pan pizza to try out. They also have other dishes. Great vibes all around. A little smoky from the wood burning oven but it added to the vide.
Will definitely be back

Emma Hearth & Market offers the convenience of shopping, ordering, and dining in their café or on the patio for both lunch and dinner. You can enjoy a wide variety of alcoholic beverages, including local and European draft beers, bottled beers, an array of Italian wines (red, white, and rosé), hard ciders, seltzers, and delightful Italian spritz and cocktails. It’s a perfect spot for a lovely meal!
We tried the fungi madness with fennel sausage and the pappardelle. I thought the pizza had a good balance of flavor, but the crust could have been a little more crispy & sturdy. I had to eat the first couple of bites with fork & knife. Maybe a square cut would have worked better. The homemade pasta tasted wonderful as well. The sauce was a little over salted and needed to be a little chunkier.
We probably would have had another cocktail if we didn’t have to walk back to the counter and reorder one. Small things addressed will make this restraunt stand out from the norm. I applaud the chef/owner Steve for taking the time to ask about our experience at Emma. They are doing things the right way, and I recommend checking them out.
