So, the food. I got the three-piece, which is fairly priced. I added burnt ends and spicy coleslaw, which were pretty good for the size. The baked beans were piping hot. The spicy coleslaw was good, though it wasn’t really spicy they just added some jalapeños. I did like the feta cheese, which added a nice touch with a little sugar.
On to the meats. The chicken quarter was kind of dry, but it was piping hot. It could have used a little more seasoning for my taste, but the sauce on the side was pretty good with it. The burnt ends were a little tough, but I liked how they dressed them up with yellow mustard, jalapeños, and onions, which created a nice flavor.
The brisket was the most tender thing I had. It was pretty good, though it could have used a little more seasoning. Overall, that was pretty good. I would come back, but I’d try something different.
Over all, one of the better places I’ve tried in Memphis.
They handed me my pork nacho container and it weighed literally pounds. I ate until I was in pain and then I took all of the leftover pork and it’s got to be at least a pound of meat that I’m taking home to make barbecue sandwiches with later! Crazy!
The andouille sausage was also crazy delicious. And they chopped it up in little pieces and they must have pan-fried it because it was slightly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Insanity!! The brisket is also fantastic.
Bottom line – don’t eat all day, then go to Elwood’s.
The owner(?) OMAR was fantastic. He recommended a few things but I wanted ribs. So he set me up with something special. Ribs, brisket, fries, beans, and coleslaw. WOW. The ribs were to die for. Omar came around and made sure everyone was happy and that they had everything they needed. The place was totally full the entire time i was there. A group would leave and another one would come in. This was definitely a great find. Ribs were thick and full of meat. The brisket was tender a flavorful. The sides were very good. The BBQ sauce was gone made and very good. Did I tell you that the ribs were fantastic?
This was exactly what I had wanted. The reviews are good. As I spoke to others in town, everybody agreed. This place is the best in town. This place is a must. It’s worth a drive from anywhere in town.
I had the pulled pork sandwich with the house made jalapeno and blue cheese slaw.
It was amazing. 9 out of 10.
My middle son had the half rack of ribs he had two sides, he chose chips and baked beans.
It was good, I’ve had better, but he enjoyed them. However, the beans had flavor, and I wanna say jalapenos. Whatever they had in them made them the best baked beans I’ve ever had.
Ribs 6/10
Baked beans 10/10
My youngest son had pancakes and bacon (this was late in the afternoon but they were still serving)
They looked amazing and tasted as good as they looked!
10/10
My oldest has the wings full smoked jerk dry rub 6 piece.
Again they were full wings so you could probably call it a 12 piece.
His side was also chips.
Wings were an easy 8/10
Overall nothing disappointed, however I did expect more from the ribs.
The total cost was $73
Which seemed a little high but that sandwich made me forget about the cost.
Seating inside was limited, they stayed busy, plenty of seating outside though.
Parking was a little different.
I just parked on the curb.
