The location is convenient, especially if you’re a student at ISU, notably having all the classic diner staples, like extra large booths and bar top. If you’re visiting during winter, there’s a coat check for convenience, and the cold weather makes the coffee taste even better.
The staff has always been very friendly, and I take it as a good sign when they bring their family in to eat where they work, which happens here a fair amount.
The menu doesn’t really have anything particularly special about it, but I would make sure to get something with a biscuit, as good biscuits are hard to come by these days. Other than my previous tip, I can’t really say I favor one menu item over another, as the quality it great on everything.
Overall, a rock solid diner experience, for those that are into that kind of thing.
Update: This morning we had breakfast with a group of friends. I had blueberry pancakes, bacon and eggs. The pancakes were amazing and the bacon is wonderful and perfectly cooked.
Everyone enjoyed their meals. And the serving size was massive. We all had food come home.
He accidentally spilled my orange juice while trying to take my menu, but handled it so professionally. He apologized and immediately went to grab papers towels to clean it up. He didn’t profusely apologize, he didn’t get defensive, but assessed the issue and immediately moved to solve it.
Presentation was great, too. The bowl was clean, as was the spoon– although there was a little bit of spillage on the side. It was nice and thick. The chocolate cake was on it’s side, which I respect– that prevents it from falling over while the server brings it out, so props to that.
The actual place was busy but rather quiet. I could hear the music, which was quiet. A great place if you’re looking for quiet dining. Of course there was still chater, but nothing like a school cafeteria.
Overall, a wonderful experience. Food presentation was great and the service was wonderful. I will be returning.
