The biggest issue was communication. One of the days we were scheduled to dine there, the restaurant was closed for a private event—but neither Ellington’s nor the hotel informed us ahead of time. We only found out when we arrived for our reservation, which was incredibly frustrating. The hostess we encountered was also quite rude, which added to the disappointment.
That said, the food itself was genuinely very good, though many items felt overpriced for what was served. Our waiter, however, was exceptional—kind, attentive, and extremely accommodating, even as our group continued to grow. He was the highlight of the experience.
This restaurant prides itself on tradition, warmth, and impeccable service—but our experience was the complete opposite.
We had a 10:30 a.m. reservation and were not seated until 45 minutes later. Once seated, drink service was slow, and it took an excessive amount of time just to place our food order. When the food finally arrived, most of it was cold, and several breakfast meals that were included in the price never came out, despite being repeatedly told they were “on the way.”
Multiple orders were also incorrect, which caused even more delays. When replacement meals arrived, they came with French fries instead of the breakfast potatoes that were supposed to be included. Ironically, after leaving, we saw breakfast potatoes being served to other tables.
When we asked to speak with a manager, we were redirected to the events coordinator, who offered only a small discount. To make matters worse, we were still charged for meals we never received and a service fee. I still left a tip because that’s the right thing to do. For a $400+ bill… Pick another place to spend your money.
Overall, the service was disorganized, slow, and unacceptable. This experience did not reflect the values this restaurant claims to uphold.
We have made going to brunch a tradition for our mother’s birthday for years. Unfortunately, we will not be returning.
The restaurant looks a whole lot different so does the buffet . No omelette station, no pancakes or waffles , no salad station ,
Protein was only salmon, turkey and prime rib, ( no chicken) cheese was on a plate with just 3 choices and dessert was really mediocre. For what I’ve seen online I really had high expectations especially paying $110 per person (mimosa is extra) we were entertaining family from overseas and this restaurant really is basic. Big disappointment. Staff was very nice. We honestly should have just drove to the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs. I don’t know how the Brown Palace is rated 5 star . Big disappointment. Our bill was $330 for 3ppl. What a waste!!
Physically the unique decor has been stripped.
We walked in and I felt like we were in a soup kitchen. No music, no welcome, no color. Bill was $200+ before tip and the only saving grace was the amazing waiter. He somehow juggled 8 tables with care and empathy. It’s just such a shame the environment didn’t reflect his effort.
