Food was so delicious and we had a very little wait time. Cooked perfectly and the price point was perfect. We will definitely be back!
My dad discovered Elkmont shortly after it opened, and while I won’t say we’re “regulars,” our family dines here often. It’s probably his favorite place to eat!
The food, drinks, and service are consistently top-notch.
They easily have one of the best bourbon selections in the area. In addition to hard-to-find and allocated bottles, they carry roughly 40+ other bourbons, not even counting ryes or other spirits. My go-to cocktails are the smoked at the table Elkmont Old Fashioned and the Greenbrier’s Dylan. They also offer daily and weekly drink specials and a solid wine list.
The food is always fresh, and the menu seems to rotate seasonally. Over the years we’ve tried just about everything, from starters like the Pimento Cheese Fritters, Seared Scallops, and Smoked Chicken Egg Rolls to entrées including Steaks, Shrimp & Grits, Roasted Carolina Trout, Short Rib Gnocchi, Elk Chops, and their house-made pasta. Everyone in my family raves about the pasta dishes. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu.
The restaurant is located in a smaller strip plaza, but inside you’ll find an elevated yet casual/comfortable dining experience. Seating options include the bar, traditional tables, and a chef’s counter overlooking the open kitchen it’s great for date nights, business dinners, or family meals.
Elkmont Station is always on my short list when I’m in town and want an outstanding meal without dealing with chains or downtown Knoxville traffic. They do accept walk-ins, but I highly recommend making a reservation to ensure you get a table.
Highly recommended.
Extended review for fellow foodies (note that the food menu is apparently changing July-ish):
We chose pimento cheese fritters and the duck confit croquettes for appetizers. The pimento cheese fritters were delayed due to one exploding so we had the croquettes first. The croquettes were one of the low points of the meal – the confit was executed well and I felt good about the fact that I was getting protein but the dish has no “pop” of flavor – probably wouldn’t order again. The pimento cheese fritters came out next with a red pepper jelly and they were very good. My wife commented that she was glad they came after the croquettes or it would’ve made those less enjoyable to eat because of how good the fritters were.
We then shared the southern peach salad. I am normally a wedge guy but this salad sounded so delicious (pickled peaches, blue cheese crumbles, pecan praline, roasted peppers, greens, blue vinaigrette) that I had to try it. Definitely one of the best salads I’ve ever had. Would absolutely crush it again.
Entrees: My wife had the short rib gnocchi and I went with the ribeye frites + the mushroom bordelaise and I swapped my asparagus for the brussel sprouts. Gnocchi was excellent, the short rib just fell apart in the dish. My ribeye was cooked as perfectly as possible and far and away executed better than most steaks I’ve had in Knoxville. Brussels were fabulous, nice and crispy, just how I like them. The truffle fingerling potatoes were fine, but if I were nitpicking I would have sliced them in half for a little more crispiness.
Dessert: Pretty small dessert selection. Apparently they have a few ice cream flavors, a rotating creme brûlée and a pot de crème. We opted for the strawberry and peanut butter ice-cream and it was surprisingly good. My wife and I also love pot de crème so we ordered that as well.
Drinks: happy hour old fashioneds and margaritas are solid at only $8/drink. I also tried the Dylan cocktail which was a fun experience. My wife for a second cocktail ordered the Everglades – which was delicious, like consuming an alcoholic key lime pie ice cream drink, but way too sweet to enjoy with entrees. We held it until we were finished and treated it as a dessert drink. I tried to order an espresso martini but was told they did not have real espresso. A chocolate cake drink was recommended, and honestly our server couldn’t remember what was in it but claimed it was really good so I went with that. It was the only cocktail we wouldn’t order again.
We spent $300 with tip for all of the above.
Our server was incredible! So attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu. One in our group had been there before. But most of our group had not. So, hearing how things are made and the flavor profiles… it was great!
We had a ‘jailbird’ drink and let me tell you – it was sensation! I don’t even like lavender!! Oh my gosh! Some at our table ordered more than one. So delicious and our compliments to the bartender
I had the halibut and it was so good! Other girls had the lamb & the chicken- all so good. At the end of the dinner they gifted me a scoop of birthday ice cream; peach cobbler flavor. The server made us aware that all the ice cream is made in house. It was very good.
The ambiance is great! A little loud- there are no soft textiles to dampen the noise. But, that would be the only critique I’d have. Intimate but not stuffy. The location is a 10.
SO GOOD!!
