I’ve had almost everything on the menu so you can trust when I say the food is amazing.
My usual order is the kitfo special. I prefer the raw preparation; it is rich, spicy and always fresh ground (which makes a huge difference in texture and quality). When I go with family, we dine-in and usually get a few different meats with a veggie platter. Everything is arranged beautifully on the same plate family style. The yellow peas and greens are my favorite. You can also have coffee served ceremony style in a jebena. Everything is always fresh, well seasoned and piping hot. The kitchen is open and you can see the owner prepare everything to order. The portions are great for the price and I always leave full without feeling weighed down.
The owner is a lovely woman from Eritrea, so her recipes differ slightly from the sea of other Ethiopian restaurants in Silver Spring. She is so warm and hospitable, I look forward to coming back every time. This restaurant is quiet, very clean, and there is a parking lot around the side next to the Shell.

Tried this Ethiopian restaurant for the first time and it did not disappoint!! We’ve had Ethiopian food from a few other spots before, but this one was spot on. The staff were so lovely and the service was great too. Portions were generous for the price and the wait time was quick. We’ll definitely be coming back!

Y’all I wanna gate keep but the owner is too nice. The place is a little hard to get to and it’s owned and operated by just one lady. So the vibe is exactly right. You know this food is about to be good. I’m tall and and skinny and when I go out to eat I’m going to Chow down. And this was enough food that even I have to take some home. The awaze tibs is just spicy enough to clear your sinuses. Perfect food for a cold day

You won’t find an Eritrean or Ethiopian restaurant in Maryland, DC or Virginia better than Elilta! Elilta is by far the best in every sense of the word. The food is outstanding and very delicious, the atmosphere is warm and wonderful, and the owners are the sweetest and nicest. After your meal, relax with their traditional coffee–it’s the best way to end a meal-or go just for the coffee–it’s that good. This is a place where you can truly relax and enjoy a meal, and coffee as well. The owners are the best!! Their food is incredible 🙂

incredible dine in experience with even better food! made the journey from DC to try and I’m so glad we did. the veggie combo and doro wat was a MUST! ended the meal off with the most rich and flavorful coffee just to make it even better. so decently priced too for how big the portions were. cannot wait to come back!

I lived in Ethiopia for two years in the mid 70s, I fell in love with their food immediately. I have been a chef in DC for over 40 years and I am here to tell you that Elita is by far one of the most authentic Ethiopian Restaurants I have eaten In all of DMV and I have been to a lot over the years. Both Vegetarian & Meat dishes alike. Not only that their prices are very good whereas a lot of restaurants have raised their prices much higher.

My friend and I visited the restaurant yesterday and this is the best Ethiopian restaurant we’ve ever been to! The owner was very friendly and welcoming, and the food and dessert were so delicious. We’ll be back for sure. If you love Ethiopian food, this place is a must-visit!

My girlfriend and I came here after a hike a month ago, and we have not stopped talking about it since. We both love Ethiopian/Eritrean food and agreed this is by far the best we’ve ever had. We live in DC but will absolutely be making the trek back. The owner/cook/server was so kind and welcoming, just a lovely human. The ambiance was casual and had really interesting art.
