Elephants Delicatessen has such a cute and cozy ambiance. I love that it’s all in one place with a bakery, sandwich shop, bar, market, and hot food bar. The staff was also very friendly.
I had the steak and chimichurri sandwich and it was amazing. The fries were great, and I also loved their candy selection.
The only downside for me was that all of the cupcakes are gluten free, so they were a bit dry and dense compared to regular cupcakes.
That said, I will definitely come back every time I visit Portland. It’s a fun, comforting spot with lots of good options.

Such a cool place! I was overwhelmed going in the first time with everything going on. Every single staff member I talked to was incredible friendly and helpful. We ended up visiting twice on our visit to Portland from the coast!

Love Elephants Delicatessen!! Delicious hot food, with a wonderful selection of deli items! They have an expansive selection of drinks and locals wines as well. Awesome food spot in Portland!

Our first visit to Portland wouldn’t have been complete without a stop at one of the iconic Elephants Delicatessens. If this is your first visit, take your time to study the menus at each food station. Don’t forget to grab a beverage. We had a ham & cheese sandwich and fish tacos. Both were very good, except that the bread on the sandwich fell apart in pieces as my husband was eating it–not a good sign of really fresh bread.

Really great store. Haven’t been inside in a very long while. Still great service.

Delightful and delish. NW 22nd location is serving outstanding Burgers Cocktails Brewskis! And more. Bartender Jared made first class luxury Manhattans, and Heather line cooked an A+ bacon cheeseburger perfectly plated (cut in half).
Highly recommend. Lots more to choose from here !✅

First time here, really cool place to check out. One recommendation for newbies is maybe have sign up front for directions! Friendly staff and great food! I would highly recommend this place!

Worthwhile for sure. A more unique dining experience. Nice gift store inside, full deli, refrigerated prepared foods and meals. For dining in there’s a sandwich and soup bar place next to the pizza ( by slice and whole brick oven) and they have a grilled and hot menu with dinner options from burger to chicken enchilada Verde to beef tips etc.
You pay cafeteria style and choose which room to sit in . The back is the best because of its cozy fireplace plus peace and quiet. The restrooms are down a big flight of stairs but I think there might have been an elevator but don’t quote me on that, just know to check if stairs are an issue for your people that could need the restroom. On the way out we sometimes get a sweet or dessert to go. It’s a destination meal for us. I have tomato orange soup and a fresh cheesy bread stick and my son has pizza. We have enjoyed the fries before too. They’re 2nd best fries around Oregon my 10 yr old says!

We stopped here for lox and bagel sandwiches before heading into Washington Park for the day. The food was great and service was fast. Loved looking around at all the trinkets and gift shop-type items while we waited.

Definitely worth a visit just for the atmosphere. Lots of food options and drinks.
It’s not a typical restaurant where you are seated by a server. You just walk in, look around and order food at the counter. They give you a ticket and you go to a check out counter (different from where you order the food) and pay. Then you just wait and grab your food when your name is called.
This would be a good place for a weekend brunch.
