We had been looking for somewhere that served up a proper British breakfast while in Chicago and came across Elephant and Castle on W Adams Street. On arrival we were warmly welcomed and quickly seated by the friendly team. We were given a little time to look over the drinks menu before placing our order, and not long after we were ready to order our food.
After a short wait, our breakfasts arrived and they were very enjoyable. I went for the small breakfast, which was more than enough and very filling. The breakfast potatoes were a particular highlight, perfectly cooked and full of flavour.
The pub itself has a great atmosphere with plenty of British themed decor, from traditional pub touches to little details like a London Underground sign above the stairs leading down to the bathrooms, which added a nice bit of charm.
Overall, it was a really good experience, so good in fact that we ended up going back the very next day for another breakfast. A great spot if you are craving a taste of home while in the city.

I had a pimms cup, cheese toastie and bread pudding. The drink was definitely not the traditional pimms cup but it was good nevertheless. The toastie was delicious, and the fries (chips) were just average. I also had the bread pudding and I thought it was also just average. Good service, nice staff.

A noisy, crowded, casual pub with very good British comfort food. The Scotch egg was delicious, and our entrees – Bangers & Mash and Cheesy Potato Leek pie – were just the thing in a cold winter night. Brandon provided friendly and professional service.

Food. Hit and miss. My husband has the slump dog and liked it. The naan bread was a different call, but it works. I had the fish tacos with mashed potatoes. The fish was extremely oily, and it was mostly just batter. I included a picture of it. The mashed potatoes was very dry with the gravy. I wish they offered white gravy as well.

Great food and great energy casual pub with a Brit-style touch to it. Great service and big credit to Laura and Krista who proactively aim to deliver a wonderful, top-tier experience. I order the Cajun Chix Ceasar wrap multiple times a week . The omelette is a tad buttery IMO but I think that’s the Midwest touch to it. The ale soup is like a French onion soup which is solid. Great ppl. (Jericho, Chris, Brando, Tashi, Jeriah ) Gets really packed and would prepare for special events like Rugby days (NZ v Ireland).
Special shout out to Ricky (whom I overlap with the most). He demonstrates 5 star service with his professionalism. (Btw no restaurant, no matter how good the food, can be five stars or Michelin rated with crappy service.) Service shapes the experience. Ricky works hard and is on top of it. I’ve witnessed him observe the room and move to address the temporary/momentary gap – someone at the bar waiting, someone who just walked in, responding to a guest’s request to change the channel. He successfully manages different personalities which is no easy feat, and with calm and ease to boot. He has shaped my experience, and is just an awesome down to earth guy who is a great asset to Elephant and Castle. They would have only a fraction of my business if it weren’t for him.
Also, love love love their music. OG. Need to meet the DJ of their playlist.

Super appreciated Elephant & Castle’s late night hours and kitchen – it was a life saver after traveling in on a evening flight. Our snacks were decently tasty and the variety of pies we tried, while not all winners, were solid. The energy inside was high and upbeat even late on a Thursday night.

Hot off the train, I royally (no pun intended) enjoyed the Bread Pudding French Toast. It came with a lovely dish of fresh fruit. After the Art Institute, I returned to enjoy the Wee Pie flight. Perfect for a cold evening with some hot tea. Filling for 1 but 2 could share and add on a salad. Delicious!
