Elena’s occupies the building next to Sonic, in the Food Lion parking lot, erstwhile the home of two other Mexican restaurants and a Greek place. Fun fact, a remnant of the Greek restaurant has remained in place for many years now, visible in the foyer’s ceiling.
The popular salsa bar in place during the Botanas and Beer era has vanished. The vegetarian menu eats like an afterthought, although I’m sure some customers will find available dishes here to their liking. Chips and salsa were about average.
Service was lackluster, but they were understaffed during our meal so…

Stopped by to give them a try after work. Everything was high quality and they didn’t seem to skimp on their selections, from homemade hot sauces to real sour cream! They even use good quality onions. My Fajita was delicious and the sauces were so complex! They were definitely more than just hot, they had a fantastic flavor. You can really see the quality in the things they cook here and my waitress truly seemed to care about my feelings toward the food. Here the food is a tribute to excellence. I also told the waitress when she asked if I needed a container for the cheese dip “I’ll probably pour it overtop like a heathen!” To which she happily said “that’s fine!” no judgement here lol! Very good. I will return!

The picture that I shared is of their Is CHRIZO-queso dip appetizer they bring it out like a steaming hot thing fajitas.The veggies were cooked perfectly. Our service was great the hostess had wonderful cute adorable braids in her hair it was awesome experience we got there right at a perfect time too Lunch was ending and the beginning of the night crowd was coming in and so it worked out perfectly it was nice and quiet we enjoyed our dip and our drinks then got on our way.

Terrible food the one time I ate there. The shrimp enchiladas didn’t seem cooked, it seemed like they just wrapped stale tortilla around shrimp and filled the inside and outside with cheese sauce. A quesadilla and orchata was left off my pickup order despite paying for them.

Ordered off Uber Eats and then get a notification that the restaurant adjusted our amount by $5. Called the restaurant and spoke to manager and he went to explain that Uber Eats does not have his updated menu prices. He says that he is still losing money because he can only adjust by $5. He tells us if we would have ordered off DoorDash it would have been around $36 but my total price came out to $50… He then goes on to say that they were going to cancel our order but he didn’t want to do that. All in all it’s not our fault that Uber Eats does not have updated pricing and before charging us $5 a call should have been made.

Been to this restaurant so many times before. Sat at the bar with a friend. Had separate checks. When we were all set, the bartender asked if we needed anything else. I said no and handed her in my card. I was shocked to see when she gave me my receipt to sign that they automatically added a 20% gratuity. I have no issue tipping, I honestly tip 25% or more depending on the service. But the problem I have is that there was no signage in the restaurant or on the menu about an automatic gratuity. Been going to this place for years and now this. When I asked the manager to correct it, he said he would have to run my card as a refund and then charge me again. I declined him running my card again and just accepted it. His reasoning for this was ” a bunch of restaurants downtown do it” Adding a gratuity without it being posted somewhere is theft. I will never go back to this establishment.

One of the absolute best Mexican restaurants around. Great food and it’s always super clean. We love this place. It’s just nice amd clean and friendly with excellent food. Highly recommend.
