I was kind of excited to try this place because a good friend recommended them, but I was highly disappointed. the portions were big (I got full off two of the taquitos) and the fries were super crispy, but the flavor was severely lacking. no spice, no heat, etc. the servers were really sweet when they came by, but I only saw my actual server like 2 times or so. it took about 10-15 minutes before the manager came over and asked if I was okay. the only reason I took the leftovers to go was because anytime I go out, I bring the leftovers home for the pup dogs.

El Zócalo is truly a hidden gem! I had no intentions of stopping here but after being rerouted off I-95 due to traffic and feeling hungry I spotted this charming corner spot with cute outdoor seating and decided to give it a try. I am so glad I did!
The moment I walked up the delicious aromas from the kitchen let me know I made the right choice. Roxie greeted me at the door with a warm welcome and provided some of the best service I’ve ever experienced. I ordered the pastor tacos and let me tell you they are hands down the best I’ve had in Virginia. The seared pineapple was absolute perfection and the tacos were generously packed with flavor and freshness reminding me of my time in California.
The homemade chips and salsa were incredible I could eat them all day! On top of that they had great happy hour drink specials which made the whole experience even better.
This place is the real deal for authentic Mexican food. I highly recommend it, and it’s now officially on my list of go to spots whenever I’m craving true, flavorful, authentic dishes.

My partner and I decided to try this place because we live in the area and finally got around to trying it. I am so glad we did! We walked in to a friendly atmosphere and were seated immediately. Our server was very friendly and attentive. I ordered shrimp fried rice, while my partner got chori pollo. They accidentally brought me the wrong food, but I was able to tell them pretty quickly, and the correct item was out in a few minutes. The food was absolutely delicious, best Mexican food we had had in a long time. The margaritas were really good too. Me and my partner had a lovely time here and the food was amazing.

We’ve been here multiple times and absolutely love it! El Zocalo is a small, inviting restaurant with a really welcoming atmosphere. The food is consistently amazing—fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The Zocalo Burrito is my favorite and never disappoints. This place has become one of our go-to spots, and we always look forward to coming back. Highly recommend!

Everything I’ve tried at El Zocalo is out of the park stellar. They make their Mole from scratch, it’s incredible. Their shrimp tacos are succulent and delicious as well. You can taste the quality and care they put into their food. The staff is friendly and it’s a cool, laid back environment to get some incredible Mexican food. Truly a gem of a restaurant.

I’ve only been here a few times but I’ll definitely keep going back if in the area! Their food is authentic, palate pleasing & eye pleasing as well! This place is definitely not your run of the mill cookie cutter Mexican restaurant thank goodness! The beans are incredible, quite possibly the best I’ve ever had anywhere! AMAZING! The BEST FLAN EVER! they make their own flan fresh in house! Delicious soapapillas! Yummy burritos and more Mexican food! Clean bathrooms! Friendly staff! Dog friendly patio! Plenty of parking. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating.

Food is really good, although the steak and chicken in the fajitas was dry/overcooked. The salsa has a bit something extra I can’t describe, but it is fantastic. I LOVE that they have nachos with black beans and not the standard refried beans (although I like refried beans, too). The black beans gave the nachos something extra.
They make the best of the small space they have, but I didn’t like how food is placed on a shelf right by where customers walk by to arrive/leave their table on the left side of the restaurant. That’s a first for me and didn’t sit well.
After eating our great meals at the restaurant, we ordered food to go for the next day. Only a tiny bit of salsa provided in to-go meals – not even the size of the little salsa bowls they serve with chips when you eat in, so very disappointing to basically have none of that great salsa for a to-go meal.
Overall, a few concerns, but we will definitely continue to come here. The food tasted fresher than a lot of Mexican restaurants and is worth the trip.

Big portions of delicious food. I had Tacos Pastor, and the blend of flavors was perfect. My wife enjoyed chicken and spinach quesadilla very much. The margaritas are very good – three sizes available.
We returned and had another outstanding dinner. I had the pollo chorizo and substituted burrito sauce instead of queso.
