Took my gf there a year ago coming from LA towards norcal stockton. We stopped by Bakersfield to look for some authentic Mexican restaurants and came across the El Zarape. This place was welcoming and had great comfortable vibes. The food portion was more than usual, and it tasted really great. Lots of flavor and service were on point when needed for a to-go box. The waiting time was on top of their game cause we didn’t wait at all. The food was fast, and togo boxes were fast as well. They did a great job.

I had ordered the Camarones a la Diabla. I really enjoyed them. They were served hot and they had a nice kick to them. Once they cooled down a bit, they were a bit less spicy. I quite enjoyed them. Service was great. Always asking if we needed more salsa or chips etc. My only complaint would be the horchata. Seems like it was watered down and then had ice added to it. Another note would be that it’s a bit on the pricier side. Other than that, I enjoyed my order.

The food was not so delicious, chicken fajitas were a bit hard (the chicken), chips and salsa were good and the homemade tortillas not so homemade. The waitress service was excellent and consistent with a beautiful attitude. Area of the restaurant not so good and this place was almost empty on a Saturday afternoon. Prices are in the middle, $21 plus for a fajita plate and a drink. I will not stop there anymore due to the food being not good. They are not sizzeling fajitas, they bring them in a combo plate. That’s just my opinion but you are welcome to try it out.

Best birria de chivo in town the food is great but it is the atmosphere here that reminds me of visiting grandma, en su rancho that makes El Zarape stand out.

Ordered 2 tacos for $8.. I swear my heart dropped to my stomach when I heard the total. Guessing its because of the size? Tortillas were way too big and didn’t have enough flavor. Got 1 asada and the other barbacoa.. neither had good flavor or was quality meat. People rave about the spot.. this is my 3rd time going.. didn’t care for the tortas or tacos but menudo is pretty good.

1 for 1 so far. I had camarones a la Mexicana & tasted great, could’ve been spicier but I say that most of the time. Beans & rice tasted authentic & the food came with homemade corn tortillas. Their horchata was ok. Good service!
