Food and prices were reasonable. The place needs some work on ambiance, decor and appearance. The bathroom was deplorable.

This is hands down at the top of my list for favorite restaurants in Tallahassee!! Their food is phenomenal! It is a local family owned restaurant and I have been eating here for many years. My first time was at their Tennessee Street location. I love the Bistec Encebollado. Also, the Papusas and Curtido and hot sauce are so flavorful! We have always had great meals there. The portion size is healthy. Keep cooking that great food!!! We’ll definitely be back!!

With this place, I learned a lesson.
The food was very good, every dish we ordered even the soups and the juices, however if I would have use the bathroom before ordering I will definitely walked out the door. Absolutely disgusting if they have the bathroom like this how would they have the kitchen. Such a sweet and sour experience.

We really enjoyed El Viruleño during our monthly Friends, Fun, and Food Meetup. The restaurant, small and family-owned, welcomed our group of 10 with warmth.
The highlight was undoubtedly the Papusas meal, our group favorite. Freshly made and served with beans and rice, it delighted everyone. Also, the Pollo Guisado —a succulent chicken leg cooked in a flavorful tomato-based sauce- was delicioso!. We appreciated the option to swap beans for fried plantains.
The friendly and knowledgeable server made our dining experience even better, and we enjoyed exploring the updated menu (as of Feb. 24 see Photos) with its periodic changes. One delightful surprise was the chance to practice Spanish as some Specials lacked translations.
Overall, El Viruleño offers delicious Salvadorian & Central American cuisine in a cozy atmosphere.. We highly recommend checking it out!

I ordered the chicken and cheese pupsa plate with rice and beans. I’m not typically a rice fan, but this rice had lots of flavor! The beans weren’t dry and pasty like most places. I forgot to take a picture when our plates first came out, but I did take one lol

We also ordered the chips and guacamole. They make their chips when you order them so don’t expect them to come right out when you order. I could have eaten just the chips and guac!! It was so good!

The food was delicious. Highly recommend. The pricing is reasonable. Seems to be a small business and don’t expect fancy decor. However, if you are looking for a good meal at a decent price, this is it! If you have never had a pupusa go gere and try them. I prefer corn based but they have rice flour as well.

We ordered tacos and chicken papusas. The chicken taco was good the beef was okay. The papusas were very bland but it was our first time trying it so maybe that’s how it is made.
