The bar area was jumping definitely a happy hour crowd but we were seated right away, which was a plus. The dining area was much calmer and nicely laid out. I really liked that there was plenty of space between tables, so it didn’t feel crowded.
After reviewing the menu, we were both surprised by how limited it was. Most Mexican restaurants usually offer a wider variety of options, but we decided to go with the chicken enchiladas. They only came with two no sides, so we added a side of rice and beans.
The food came out quickly and was hot, which we appreciated. However, we both felt like the enchiladas were a bit light on the chicken and honestly, the flavor was pretty underwhelming. What a bummer, because I really thought we’d stumbled on a hidden gem.
We didn’t get drinks or appetizers since we were short on time, but I will say the staff was friendly and the prices were reasonable for the area. I just wish the menu had more variety and the food packed a little more flavor.
We chose to rate them 3 stars because the restaurant was nice and the staff was pleasant. I wasn’t able to get a lot of pictures.
Highly recommend the churros to end the meal—they’re a must. This place remains one of the most reliable spots in the city.
The staff were super friendly and polite, even when the place started getting busy. It’s got a fun vibe – lively but not overwhelming. Also, the location is super convenient – just a short walk from the WTC, so it’s perfect if you’re exploring the area or need a good bite after visiting the memorial or Oculus.
Definitely a place I’d go back to, especially if I’m in the mood for good Mexican food with solid vegetarian choices.
I’ve been a regular at El Vez for a while now, and it never disappoints. I recently went for lunch with my niece, and from start to finish, it was an absolute delight.
We kicked things off with the Nachos Mama—and wow, they were just as incredible as we remembered. Perfectly layered with gooey cheese, hearty beans, tangy vinagre onions, and just the right heat from the jalapeños. The crispy tortillas held up like champs under all that goodness, and the cheese was flawlessly melted.
For mains, I went with the fish tacos on corn tortillas (my personal favorite), and they were fresh, flavorful, and satisfying. My niece had the steak tacos and loved them so much she took the last one home for dinner—which, trust me, is high praise from her!
The vibe is always upbeat, and the service was friendly and polite without being overbearing. If you’re looking for solid Mexican cuisine in a welcoming atmosphere, El Vez is the place to be.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Highly recommended!
The food was decent but nothing special. Just overpriced because it is NYC. The chicken enchiladas were average. The carne asada burrito was good. The chips and salsa were kind of pitiful for almost $9.
Unfortunately we will not be back to this establishment.
You can’t go wrong with margaritas, of course, along with the chicken and steak asada tacos. And if you have room for dessert, definitely order the churros—they’re worth it.
