I am so grateful they have a location downtown. It’s very close to home. I love the lighting that they have there. Plenty of windows with natural lighting. The staff is amazing! Real quick to greet you at the door and get you seated wherever you like . The restaurant is Very clean, nice and welcoming environment. Food was delicious and hot and the service was great. The server we had was very patient with me, as I asked questions about the items on the menu. Not rushing us to order at the same time paying very close attention to our needs such as Water napkins, how we were doing? How was the food? Just communicating with us. In love that. He gave us refills in the chips and salsa as well, were amazing. They come out fresh and warm. The salsa was a nice consistency. Not watery. The food was very tasty. Season to perfection! We order Taco Roberto that’s the one with the feta cheese on it. Sweet and tangy to the taste. Birria tacos with the dipping sauce hmmm it was delicious. We love the strawberry horchata!! Guacamole salad is a must! Plus rice. The pricing is reasonable for a nice day out for authentic Mexican food! Lunch, dinner! And I almost forgot to mention they have valet parking after 4 PM!!

I came in here Thursday night with friends we all paid separate I got one frozen margarita, strawberry, and a Elote corn My bill was $18 something when I paid the male server was very rude and pushy, and he did not give any of my Friends receipts I checked my bank account today as the Payment just processed and they charged me for almost $22. I never left a tip because of how rude he was they overcharged me and it seems that he added a tip on for himself. I will never ever ever come back to this restaurant beware it’s very scammy.

when I tell you I am so disgusted and disappointed I have never left a review like this before in my life. These people gave me two drinks with no sweetener I ordered two raspberry teas. They prepared one lemonade and one tea that is just tea. They forgot my chicken hard taco. My corn looks old. And to be quite honest they’re pretty expensive compare compared to other restaurants with better tasting food. Normally when I order on DoorDash I don’t make complaints on the Google review. However ultimately they made the food they prepared this order.

⭐️⭐️ 2 out of 5 stars

We chose El Vaquero for the convenience — it’s right by the convention center where our volleyball tournament was held — so you’d think they’d be prepared for large crowds. Unfortunately, they didn’t seem ready for the rush at all.

From the start, the service felt off. The hostess looked genuinely surprised we walked in, and we had to initiate the interaction. Once seated, several parents and coaches shared similar experiences — slow, scattered service and lots of confusion. One parent ordered water and was repeatedly brought a ginger beer instead (still not sure how those got mixed up.)

The food itself was… fine. My shrimp bowl was basically a dressed-up salad with smaller portions than expected. The seafood tasted fresh and the flavors were good, but the presentation felt very home-style rather than restaurant quality. Chips, salsa, and queso were standard.

On the bright side, the King Crown cocktail was excellent — a great option if you prefer dark liquor over margaritas. I also appreciated their fun, high-energy birthday song for two guests at our table — easily the most memorable part of the night.

Overall, the staff seemed stressed and overwhelmed, and it showed. If you’re just stopping in for a drink, it might work. But for groups or full meals, there are many better options downtown.

Stopped in before a concert. Colorful, welcoming atmosphere. Good menu selection. Lots of vegetarian options. I got a salad. Housemase Ranch was very good. Chips, cheese dip and salsa were great.

Etsy took great care of me and made some delicious Mozart Chocolate Carajillo.

Their fresh salsa and tortillas were so good!

Alex at El Vaquero deserves a promotion, a trophy, and possibly his own holiday.

We walked in hungry and slightly chaotic, and Alex immediately took control of the situation like an air traffic controller guiding a table full of confused burritos to a safe landing. Drinks showed up so fast I’m pretty sure he teleported. My margarita hit the table before I even finished thinking the word “margarita,” which honestly felt like magic and also like excellent customer service.

Now let’s talk food. Alex didn’t just “take our order,” he engineered an experience. He gave recommendations with the confidence of someone who has personally interviewed every taco on the menu. Everything came out hot, perfect, and timed like a Broadway show. Not once did we have to do that sad little “excuse me” wave. Alex was already there. Refills appeared like he was running a hydration surveillance system.

And let me be real: our table was… a lot. Questions, substitutions, “wait actually,” “sorry one more thing,” and at least one moment where somebody forgot what they ordered mid-sentence. Alex handled it with the calm energy of a saint and the precision of a NASA launch director. Zero attitude. All smiles. Just pure professional excellence.

If you work here, go ahead and show this review to everyone: Alex is that guy. The legend. The server you brag about having on staff. Give him a raise, give him first pick of shifts, and if there’s an Employee of the Month wall, just replace it with an Employee of the Alex.

10/10. Would come back specifically to be served by Alex again.

I’ve been coming here for the past six months, and the food is consistently amazing. It’s always evolving in a good way, which is how you know it’s truly authentic and made with care. They keep improving every day. Even when they’re slammed during events, they still handle business like pros and never miss a beat. I absolutely love this place. My go-to is the fajita quesadilla with a house margarita and a Grand Marnier shooter — highly recommend.

We finally checked out El Vaquero, and honestly, it was kind of a mixed bag.

We ordered the steak fajitas, and they really needed more seasoning. It just didn’t have that bold “Mexican” flavor we were hoping for.
The steak itself didn’t seem like the “Angus” they advertised either, and it was full of gristle.
The rice, beans, guac, sour cream, and pico that came with it were just okay.

The chicken tamale was good, but nothing mind-blowing.

As for drinks, we had the jumbo lime margarita: it’s pre-mixed, and surprisingly, it was the best pre-mixed margarita we’ve had.

The real star of our lunch was the housemade hot sauce: super flavorful and really spicy in the best way. Also, big points for the free chips and salsa!!!

The music was a little loud but not too bad, and the service was super friendly.

My quesabarria tacos were so cold the cheese wasn’t even attempted to be melted. The meat felt like it had just been removed from the fridge. The refried beans were a thick cold gel like pile. I’m not sure why my food was so cold maybe it sat back there so long or maybe they didn’t even heat it. Also, I got the tequila flight and watched the bartender pour 4 of the same when it was supposed to be a variety of the patrón
