This place is unbelievably delicious. In a town full of great Mexican restaurants/Tex Mex, El Vaquero is a cut above. The folks running it could not be any nicer or more passionate about the food they make. If you have a craving for good food, come here

Absolutely incredible place, they had wonderful service with kind and fun staff. They accommodated my dairy allergy with complete grace and the food was absolutely delicious, the best mexican food we’ve had in years. A quiet but fun atmosphere to spend time with friends or family. Could not recommend this place more!!

Had to go back three time during their first soft opening week, and that should tell you something. It is definitely not your typical Tex-mex cuisine that Americans are accustomed to, it’s about simple genuine ethnic food that is commonly served at restaurants in Mexico. I have savored so many dishes during my visits and cannot decide what to start with. The tasty flavorful Gorditas soft tacos, offered with different fillings, highlighted with the “Tacos de Lengua”, a core ethnic Mexican dish served with their freshly in house made tortillas. Their seafood soup that combines a generous mixture of shrimp, mussels, squid, scallops and fish, cooked with natural ingredients to give you a savory comforting broth. I’d strongly suggest their delicious “El Vaquero Mixed Grill” which turned into a favorite, and let’s not forget about the Fajitas that hold a special place in the realm of Mexican cuisine, captivating the taste buds with their sizzling allure and tantalizing aromatic flavors. Above all their Luscious and Palatable dishes it will be unfair to overlook and leave out their friendly cordial staff who certainly made a difference in my dinning experience. Give’em a shot folks, it is worth the try.

As you may notice most and if not all Mexican restaurants in Richmond, market their food as “ethnic Mexican food”, I say ethnic my tail!!! I’d call it ethnic American food with a Mexican flair!! Now if you really what to savor some good real Mexican food ethnicity, you folks have to visit El Vaquero. Uniquely prepared and freshly made food with a wide variety of choices. Don’t feel like an intruder when you see yourself surrounded by Hispanic patrons filling up the dinning area, El Vaquero seems to be their hub for real Mexican cooking!

Very good central American/ Mexican food with great prices and large portions. Convenient to I-95. It recently opened/reopened and it isn’t busy, yet. So you can get in there and get served quickly. Our server was attentive and made a suggestion for my wife that she really liked. Watch out for the poblano pepper, it’s a hot one!

If you miss La Siesta’s white dip, we’ll guess what, THEY HAVE IT! I travel 45 minutes to come here just get a jar of it. Apparently thier other.location closer to me, the white dip is a different recipe. The people here are so nice and even the furniture is straight from Mexico. This place makes me feel like the good ole days. I can’t recommend this restaurant enough. Its a hidden gem, a must try!

If I could give more than five stars, I would! The food and service are both amazing, and it’s quickly become a family favorite. Prices are very affordable, and there’s never a wait. Everyone is so nice, and Bri is a fantastic waitress! You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu, so give them a try!

The food is amazing and the family running it are friendly, wonderful people. They have remolded the old LaCasita to a cleaner, updated atmosphere. They still serve that fantastic white sauce that made LaCasita so popular back in its heyday. I have been here several time’s already and have thoroughly enjoyed each meal.

My granddaughter and I had dinner at Henrico’s El Vaqueros on 9-5-25. It is under new management, and beautufully refurbished from the former popular Mexican restaurant, which was there for many years. The enviroment, the three page memu of classic Mexican food was excellent. Service was timely and friendly. We highly recommend it.
