What a great fine and gourmet Mexican restaurant. Ambient and accomodations is fantastic, food is great, flavorful, great variety and good portions.
This new location (almost in from of the old one) is bigger and better.
When you want to discover the flavors of Mexican food with a nice touch, this is the place.

I had the opportunity to visit El Tradicional on a Thursday happy hour and so should you.

Located on the Glen, El Tradicional is a great after work venue to meet friends or co workers. I enjoyed the Happy hour menu items of Chicken tacos and the menu Enchiladas which were delicious. Chips and salsa are standard issue.

The house Margarita stands on its own as a favorite to order but I went with that authentic, big, bold beauty the Michelada with Modelo as the lager.

The place was crowded, which is a good thing. Seating for spring, summer, fall is outdoors or indoors. Parking can be a challenge, check out the Free oarking garages and walk to the venue for easiest access.

Good place for a little Mexican food. Nothing was outstanding but it was tasty and the Michelada was delicious.

Jan 2. Sat at the bar to eat. Two of us. First time here, my son got us gift card so happy to send us. 1.50 hrs. to get two drinks and one appetizer. Wanted dinner but had to leave. Single bartender but wasn’t like rushing around overwhelmed. The main thing is we would ask for things that never would come. Finally managed to get the app, no silverware, plates. Had to steal from a bar table nearby. Ask for chips and salsa. 10 minutes later 1/2 basket showed up. And I first asked the guy who brought the food for these chips, never returned. Seems like some of the locals got a little better attention but many people at the bar this evening seemed upset. Bartender said sorry for the wait after an hour or so. But this is really disappointing. Should be zero stars.

The nachos are my favorite to go appetizer while drinking my margarita after work. It’s filling and delicious. I sit at the bar and chat up with our favorite bartender Carlos, he is the best!! The atmosphere and friendliness of the staff is what keeps us coming back.

The staff always showed up at an appropriate time to take our order and pour us water. They were always super friendly, cheerful, and nice. The frozen margaritas were delicious. The food was definitely authentic. We will definitely go there again.

Nice atmosphere until they turned the music so loud that we couldn’t talk. We had to shout at each other for the last part of the meal. Consider getting zones for the music if it needs to be very loud in the party portion of the restaurant.

El Traditional Mexican Restaurant & Cantina in The Glen, Glenview, offers a mix of experiences that left me with somewhat mixed feelings. While the food was passable, I couldn’t overlook the fact that the service and wait time were major letdowns.

Let’s start with the positives. The restaurant has a charming ambiance with a traditional Mexican vibe that adds to the dining experience. The menu boasts a variety of Mexican dishes, and the flavors were decent.
However, the major downside was the incredibly long wait time for our food. Waiting for over an hour is quite unacceptable, especially on a weekday. It significantly affected the overall enjoyment of the meal, and it’s something the restaurant should address promptly. Perhaps the kitchen was understaffed that day, but such extended waiting times are not easily forgiven.

On a brighter note, our server seemed like a very friendly and polite person. But here’s the catch: he was not attentive enough, and it seemed like he wasn’t around much when we needed assistance. This further added to the frustration of the prolonged wait for our food.

While I understand that restaurants can have off-days, it’s essential to maintain consistency in service quality. Perhaps, as the review suggests, the experience may differ on weekends when they might be better prepared to handle a larger crowd.

All in all, El Traditional Mexican Restaurant & Cantina is an okay place for a casual meal, especially if you’re in the mood for Mexican cuisine. However, be prepared for possible hiccups in service and long waiting times, particularly if you visit on a weekday. If you decide to try this restaurant out, I’d recommend doing so on a weekend to see if the experience improves.

Service was great. Very friendly. Sat us right away.
Drinks – good. Food – not so much.
My chorizo tacos were super salty.
Steak fajitas were OK.
The friend calamari was fine but the sauce that came with the calamari was probably straight tobasco sauce. Won’t be coming here again.
